Renowned singer, the Bhajan Samrat Anup Jalota added yet another honour in his kitty, winning the Akademi Puraskar for 2020 in the music category. He is among the 128 respected performing artists who have bagged the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards for 2019, 2020, 2021, announced on November 25.
The 69 year old artist who hails from Lucknow Uttar Pradesh was honoured the Padma Shri 10 years ago in 2012. In his first reaction on winning the prestigious award, “I am happy and humbled to see my name for the much coveted Akademi Puraskar. It’s like a dream for every artist to win this award and I am thankful to all for this great honour,” Jalota said.
Apart from Anup Jalota, The Sangeet Natak Akademi or the National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama also elected 10 distinguished persons as Akademi Fellows, each with an award of Rs 3,00,000. The SNA also honured 128 artists drawn from the fields of music, dance, theatre, traditional folk/tribal music/ dance/theatre, puppetry for their contributions for 3 years with Rs 1,00,000.
The awardees, hailing from across the country, shall be presented the awards at the hands of President Draupadi Murmu at a special ceremony soon.
