Oscar and Grammy-nominated indie musician, Sufjan Stevens informed last month that waking up one morning he found out he couldn’t walk. The ‘Mystery of Love’ singer recently posted a selfie on Instagram from beside his hospital bed. Month-long he was hospitalized and was under observation and treatment. Fortunately, the 48-year-old American singer is healing. He wrote: “Last month I woke up one morning and couldn’t walk. My hands, arms, and legs were numb and tingling and I had no strength, no feeling, no mobility.”

From medical tests, it was found that Stevens was suffering from Guillian-Barre Syndrome, an auto-immune disorder. Guillian-Barre Syndrome is a rare illness in which the immune system attacks the peripheral nerves which could lead to irreversible neurological damage including paralysis.

The singer-songwriter has informed that it was lucky for him that there was treatment for his condition. He was administered immune-hemoglobin infusions for 5 days so that the disease could not spread to his vital organs like lungs, heart, and brain. He remarked, ‘Very scary, but it worked.’

The vocalist updated his fans on Instagram that he is getting better and learning how to walk again. Stevens has released 9 solo albums and has collaborated on several projects with other artists. His upcoming album Javelin is due to be released next month.
