Rishab Shetty’s “Kantara” qualified for the Academy Awards in the Best Picture and Best Actor categories. This means that Oscar members can vote to advance “Kantara” to the main nominations.

As 2023 starts, the movie’s nomination is a huge milestone for Kannada cinema. This prestigious nomination comes in the backdrop of another honor to India, namely the qualification and subsequent winning of the Best Original Song by SS Rajamouli’s RRR for the song “Naatu Naatu”. Although Kantara has entered the Oscars race rather late, the nomination of RRR and Kantara in several categories undoubtedly marks a new high for South Indian cinema, which has taken India and now the world by storm. With this, the Oscar journey for SS Rajamouli’s RRR and Rishab Shetty’s Kantara have officially started.

The news of Kantara’s Oscar nomination is a great source of pride for Kannadiga people and India. Netizens demanded that the filmmakers submit the film to the Oscars throughout the film’s successful run in theaters, and they flooded social media with numerous hashtags urging them to do so. Sharing the happiness on their Twitter page, the makers wrote, “We are overjoyed to share that Kantara has received 2 Oscar qualifications! A heartfelt thank you to all who have supported us. We look forward to sharing this journey ahead with all of your support. Can’t wait to see it shine at the #Oscars #Kantara #HombaleFilms (sic).”

Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, ‘Kantara’ was released on September 30th only in Kannada. Seeing the huge popular response from all over Karnataka and other parts of India, the makers dubbed the film in other languages as well, with its Telugu and Hindi language versions receiving a stupendous response on account of its content, theme, and universal connect across India.

Jay-Ho! The Jay Kumar Show wishes Kantara the very best for its Oscar journey and we are rooting to hear the news soon.
