The Nun II, directed by Michael Chaves as an 8th installment in The Conjuring Universe franchise is a gothic supernatural horror that is receiving mixed response from the audience. Clearly, some people are awestruck by the entire movie while others think it has failed to generate any scary feelings at all. Some find the story not-so-enjoyable while others are pretty amused with the jump scares throughout the film.
The story unfolds 5 years after the events of the first film. Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) and a newbie nun, Debra (Storm Reid) are put to the test as the Vatican demands Irene to investigate the demonic murders across Europe committed by the evil nun, Valak (Bonnie Aarons). After Irene gets a vision from Maurice (Jonas Bloquet) who pleads with her to save his life, the two young nuns travel to Tarascon where they must find out Valak’s motive and send her back to hell. While Irene has previous experience with the demon, Debra finds it hard to believe at first.
At Tarascon, the two nuns go to the French boarding school where Maurice works. A series of strange events occur at school and Valak possesses Maurice and does a series of killings at school.
Can Irene and Debra save Maurice from the clutches of Valak? Will Valak stay and spread its peril all over Europe? Will Irene be able to send the evil Valak back to hell or fail this time? The movie has a lot of things going on in it from bullying at school to a budding romance, to the demonic killings and the hauntings by Valak.
Taissa Farmiga gave an incredible performance, while Storm Reid as the young Debra brings freshness to this dark plot. The horrifying Valak with sunken black eyes was first seen in The Conjuring 2 and scared people out of their wits! The Nun by Corin Hardy was not quite up to the mark and its sequel by Michael Chaves also fails to create a spine-chilling experience. Valak’s constant appearance made it kind of repetitive instead of terrifying. In all, the movie is a one-time watch. If you enjoy watching thrilling flicks you can watch this. The Nun II is running in theaters now.
