Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, the popular actress of her time, is best remembered for her role as the bubbly girl opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the hit film “Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa.” After a few more movies, she stepped away from the limelight when she married actor-filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor in 1999. The couple has a daughter named Kaveri.
Recently, Suchitra has made shocking revelations about her marriage with Shekhar Kapur. In a candid conversation, she shared, “My husband was very clear that he doesn’t want his wife to act. I said, ‘Okay, no big deal.’ I was too naive, too young to understand the thinking in other person’s mind. I always had more talent than ambition, so I didn’t think anything would stop in my life. Though it did.”

Despite her passion for acting, she chose to comply with her husband’s wishes at that time. She reflected on her past, stating, “I was a rebel. In retrospect, I don’t know… like I said.. Slavery.. I think I just had this mad, passionate, crazy idea of love. So, when my husband said don’t act, I said ok. So, it wasn’t so important. It’s not like somebody held a gun at my head and said ‘you can’t do.’ I was so in my world, it did not matter. That’s what I wanted. I wanted marriage, I wanted kids, and I wanted a family, and I never thought…”
Suchitra Krishnamoorthi and Shekhar Kapur’s marriage eventually faced challenges, and they divorced in 2007 after 12 years together. The actress has also revealed that Shekhar had been unfaithful during their marriage, but she believes that marriages don’t break because of infidelity but due to disrespect.
After her divorce, she took a sabbatical from acting but made a comeback with roles in the Prime Video India films “Odd Couple” alongside Vijay Raaz and the legal drama series “Guilty Minds” as Neela.
As she opens up about her personal life, Suchitra’s candid revelations have attracted significant attention. Meanwhile, their daughter Kaveri is all set to make her Bollywood debut, carrying forward the artistic legacy of her talented parents.
