Fans of Diljit Dosanjh were excited when he dropped the trailer for his upcoming movie Sardaar Ji 3 on Instagram. But many were surprised and disappointed when they couldn’t watch the trailer on YouTube in India. This unexpected move is being linked to rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
Trailer Blocked in India
On Sunday, Diljit shared the Sardaar Ji 3 trailer through his Instagram handle and posted a YouTube link for viewers. However, people in India trying to watch the trailer were met with an error: “The uploader has not made this video available in your country.” This means the trailer has been geo-blocked and cannot be viewed in India through YouTube.
Interestingly, the teaser and songs from the film — especially those featuring Diljit and actress Neeru Bajwa — are still available on YouTube for Indian audiences. The full trailer, though, can only be watched on Instagram by viewers in India.
Backlash Over Pakistani Actor’s Involvement
The movie features Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, who plays a major role alongside Diljit. This has triggered backlash online. Many social media users are angry and calling Diljit “shameless” for working with a Pakistani actor during a time of high political tension between the two countries.
This criticism comes in the wake of the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22, which killed 26 people in Jammu and Kashmir. Following this, India carried out Operation Sindoor on May 7 — a military strike targeting terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. As a result, tensions between the two nations have worsened, and calls to boycott Pakistani artists have grown louder.
Due to this climate, the release of other films featuring Pakistani actors — like Abir Gulaal, starring Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor — has also been delayed.
What is Sardaar Ji 3 About?
Sardaar Ji 3 is the third film in the popular Sardaar Ji series. This time, the story follows Diljit’s character, a ghost hunter, who is given the task of removing a spirit from a haunted mansion in the UK. Both Hania Aamir and Neeru Bajwa will be seen romancing Diljit in this horror-comedy.
Diljit announced that the film will be released overseas only on June 27. He wrote in Punjabi: “Sardaar Ji 3 Releasing 27th June OVERSEAS Only. FADH LAO BHOOND DIAN LATTAN,” hinting at a fun and spooky ride for fans outside India.
The film also stars Manav Vij, Gulshan Grover, Jasmin Bajwa, and Sapna Pabbi in important roles. It is directed by Amar Hundal.
The Sardaar Ji Franchise
The first Sardaar Ji film came out in 2015 and was directed by Rohit Jugraj. It starred Diljit, Neeru Bajwa, and Mandy Takhar. The second part was released in 2016. The franchise is known for mixing humor, fantasy, and supernatural elements — and has a strong fan following, especially among Punjabi cinema lovers.
