Netflix’s highly anticipated crime thriller Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders made its world premiere at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, setting the tone for its global release on December 19, 2025. The film marks the next chapter in the universe introduced by the critically acclaimed Raat Akeli Hai, and brings back Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the brooding and sharp-witted Inspector Jatil Yadav.

A Dark New Case for Inspector Jatil Yadav

Directed by Honey Trehan and written by Smita Singh, the film transports audiences to Kanpur, where the powerful and politically connected Bansal family is discovered brutally murdered inside their sprawling mansion. As Jatil Yadav steps in to investigate, he enters a maze of shifting loyalties, entrenched power structures, hidden belief systems, and long-buried secrets that threaten to blur the line between truth and deception.

The film is produced by RSVP and MacGuffin Pictures, featuring a stellar ensemble cast that includes Radhika Apte, Chitrangda Singh, Deepti Naval, Rajat Kapoor, Revathy, Ila Arun, Sanjay Kapoor and Akhilendra Mishra.

Netflix on Expanding the Raat Akeli Hai Universe

Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, Director of Original Films at Netflix India, said that this new installment deepens the tone, intrigue and emotional complexity that made the original film a standout.
She noted,

“Honey Trehan returns to raise the stakes with a mystery that is more ambitious in scale, layered in character and grounded in emotional truth.”

Honey Trehan on Raising the Stakes

For director Honey Trehan, The Bansal Murders is not merely a sequel—it is an evolution of the world he previously created. Trehan explained that the story delves into the moral and emotional price one pays for uncovering the truth.

“With Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders, we’ve gone deeper into the world we built earlier. This film explores the price of truth and the corruption of conscience, with the stakes higher than ever.”

Reflecting on the IFFI premiere, he added that the festival’s emphasis on authentic storytelling made the debut especially meaningful.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui Returns to a Character Both Familiar and New

Nawazuddin Siddiqui expressed that returning as Inspector Jatil Yadav felt both comfortable and challenging.

“This film takes him to places he’s never been, emotionally and morally,”
he shared, calling the IFFI premiere a special milestone ahead of the global launch.
