Actor and humanitarian Sonu Sood has once again used his influence to spotlight an issue rooted in compassion and public responsibility—this time calling for the vaccination and sterilisation of India’s stray dogs. Extending his support to animal welfare organisation Jeev Sabha, Sood advocated humane, science-backed solutions to address the growing stray dog population and the persistent threat of rabies.

In a heartfelt video message, the actor appealed to citizens to view stray animals as part of India’s social fabric rather than as a problem to be eliminated. Drawing a powerful comparison with the COVID-19 pandemic, Sood stressed that awareness, collective effort, and preventive healthcare are the only sustainable ways forward.

“Just like we came together to fight COVID, vaccination and sterilisation can help control rabies and protect our stray dogs. These animals are born and raised here—they are as Indian as we are,” he said.

Advocating Humane, Long-Term Solutions

Sood’s message strongly reinforces the need for preventive action over reactive measures, highlighting how vaccination and sterilisation not only protect animals but also ensure public safety. By focusing on coexistence rather than conflict, the actor underscored the importance of empathy-driven policymaking and community participation.

“Let’s choose kindness. Let’s choose solutions,” Sood said, adding his full support to Jeev Sabha’s efforts. “When we act responsibly, everyone—humans and animals—benefits.”

Animal welfare experts have long maintained that vaccination and sterilisation programmes are the most effective ways to reduce aggression, curb disease transmission, and manage stray populations humanely.

Legal and National Context

Sood’s appeal comes at a crucial time as the Supreme Court of India continues to hear petitions related to the stray dog situation across the country. The court has repeatedly emphasised the need to strike a balance between public safety and animal welfare, advocating structured vaccination and sterilisation drives instead of harmful or unlawful actions.

Several state governments and municipal bodies have also been encouraged to strengthen Animal Birth Control (ABC) programmes, though implementation challenges remain.

A Consistent Humanitarian Voice

Widely regarded as a real-life hero, Sonu Sood has consistently stepped forward during national crises. From arranging transport and employment for migrant workers during the COVID-19 lockdown to supporting healthcare, education, and disaster relief initiatives, his advocacy for animal welfare feels like a natural extension of his long-standing commitment to social causes.

His involvement has also helped bring greater visibility to animal welfare organisations working at the grassroots level, encouraging citizens to contribute through volunteering, donations, and awareness.

On the Work Front

On the professional side, Sonu Sood was last seen in the action thriller Fateh, which marked his directorial debut. The film featured an ensemble cast including Naseeruddin Shah, Jacqueline Fernandez, Vijay Raaz, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya, and showcased Sood in a gritty, action-driven avatar.
