Netflix has unveiled the trailer of Akka, an upcoming gangster drama starring Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte. Set in the fictional kingdom of Pernuru, the series centres on a power struggle between two women whose ambitions threaten to disrupt an established legacy. Written and directed by Dharmaraj Shetty, Akka is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on October 30.
The trailer introduces Keerthy as Bhavani and Radhika as Rudra, two women with contrasting approaches to authority and ambition. As Rudra challenges Pernuru’s established power structure, tensions begin to rise, forcing characters to confront their loyalties and the consequences of their choices.
Produced by YRF Entertainment, the series brings a female-led rivalry to the centre of a gangster narrative, exploring how power, legacy and personal beliefs collide in a world governed by its own rules.
Akka Trailer Introduces Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte’s Rivalry
At the heart of Akka is the conflict between Bhavani and Rudra. Keerthy’s Bhavani is determined to protect her legacy, while Radhika’s Rudra refuses to accept the existing order and is prepared to challenge the authority surrounding her.
The trailer sets up a confrontation shaped by more than competing ambitions. Their differences in personality, beliefs and loyalties appear central to the unfolding drama, creating the possibility of a conflict in which personal relationships are as important as control over the kingdom.
Rather than presenting the story as a straightforward contest for dominance, Akka appears to examine what happens when two determined women pursue different visions of power. The fictional setting of Pernuru provides the backdrop for a struggle that spans generations and threatens to reshape the established order.
Keerthy Suresh on Playing Bhavani
Keerthy Suresh described Bhavani as a woman who understands what she stands for and is prepared to go to considerable lengths to protect her legacy. However, the actress also highlighted the difficult decisions that lie beneath the character’s authority.
According to Keerthy, Bhavani’s strength is accompanied by choices that become increasingly complicated as the stakes rise. This tension between conviction and personal sacrifice appears to be an important part of her character’s journey.
The actress also spoke about working with Radhika Apte, noting that the contrasting energies of Bhavani and Rudra contribute to the series’ dramatic tension. Their relationship is expected to be a key element of the story as the conflict in Pernuru intensifies.
Radhika Apte on Rudra’s Challenge to the Established Order
Radhika Apte described Rudra as a woman who refuses to be defined by her circumstances. Driven by her own ambitions, Rudra is willing to question the established power structure and challenge the people who seek to preserve it.
The actress said the conflict in Akka extends beyond the question of who ultimately holds power. Different beliefs, loyalties and personal stakes shape the characters’ decisions, giving the rivalry a broader emotional dimension.
Radhika also spoke positively about sharing the screen with Keerthy Suresh. Their contrasting characters provide the foundation for a rivalry that appears central to the series’ narrative.
Dharmaraj Shetty on Creating the World of Akka
For writer-director Dharmaraj Shetty, Akka offered an opportunity to approach the gangster genre through a distinctive fictional setting and characters who are not often placed at the centre of such stories.
Shetty explained that he was drawn to the possibility of building a world with its own rules while telling a large-scale story through relationships and competing ambitions. Pernuru, the fictional kingdom at the heart of the series, is shaped by generations of women, with power, legacy and rivalry influencing its future.
This setting gives Akka a framework for exploring how authority is established, protected and challenged. The story’s female-led conflict also distinguishes its central dynamic from the familiar rivalries often associated with gangster dramas.
Akka Cast: Tanvi Azmi, Mahesh Manjrekar and Others
Alongside Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte, Akka features Tanvi Azmi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Anshuman Pushkar and Monica Panwar.
The ensemble supports a story that extends beyond the two central characters, with Pernuru’s established loyalties and competing interests forming part of the wider conflict. Further details about the supporting characters and their roles can be added as Netflix releases more official information.
The series is produced by YRF Entertainment and marks another collaboration between Netflix and the production company. Their previous projects include The Romantics, The Railway Men, Maharaj and Mandala Murders.
