The world of Game of Thrones is expanding once again — this time with a brand-new prequel series titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Set a century before the events of Game of Thrones, the series follows the legendary knight Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and his young squire Egg, who will one day become one of the most famous Targaryen rulers.

When and Where to Watch in India

The Game of Thrones spin-off will premiere globally in January 2026 on Max (formerly HBO Max).
According to The Economic Times, Indian viewers can stream the series on JioCinema, which continues to hold Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming rights in India.

What A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Is About

Based on George R.R. Martin’s beloved novella The Hedge Knight, the series takes place nearly 100 years before Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen’s era, offering a refreshing glimpse into Westeros when dragons were still a memory and knighthood was pure honor.

The story follows Dunk (Peter Claffey) — a humble yet courageous knight — and his spirited squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell) as they journey through Westeros, encountering tournaments, princes, and the tangled politics of House Targaryen.

The official synopsis reads:

“A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros — a young, naive but brave knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. In an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the last dragon’s memory lingers, great destinies and dangerous exploits await these incomparable friends.”

Official Poster & Fan Reactions

HBO recently unveiled the first official poster for the series, carrying the tagline “A tall tale that became legend.” The image hints at a lighter, more adventurous tone than House of the Dragon, while retaining the grandeur of Westeros.

The Game of Thrones official handle wrote:

“This Winter, Spring is Coming. #AKnightoftheSevenKingdoms premieres January, only on @hbomax.”

Fans flooded social media with excitement — one wrote, “My favourite Game of Thrones story right here. Can’t wait!” while another added, “Everybody wake up, WINTER IS COMING.”

Cast and Characters

The series stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg. Other key Targaryen characters — including Prince Aerion, Prince Maekar, and Prince Baelor Breakspear — are expected to appear in the pivotal Ashford Meadow Tournament sequence.

The show is helmed by Ira Parker, with Game of Thrones veterans George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal serving as executive producers, ensuring the world of Westeros retains its familiar depth and intrigue.
