Abhijeet Bhattacharya, a popular playback singer known for voicing many iconic Shah Rukh Khan songs in the 90s and 2000s, recently shared why he stopped singing for the superstar. The singer also revealed whether he still holds any grudges against SRK or if their relationship is completely over. Here’s what he had to say.

Why Abhijeet Bhattacharya Stopped Singing for Shah Rukh Khan

In a candid interview, Abhijeet Bhattacharya opened up about the reason he stopped singing for Shah Rukh Khan. According to him, the rift began when he felt that his contributions were not being acknowledged properly. Abhijeet explained, “When self-respect is hurt, you feel like saying, ‘Enough is enough.'” He added that while he always sang for his passion and not just for SRK, he began to notice that the people around him on set were being acknowledged – even the tea vendor – but not the singer. This lack of recognition made him question why he should continue to be Shah Rukh’s voice.

Abhijeet felt that despite his hard work, the credits were going to everyone else but him. As an artist who put in his best effort, he couldn’t accept being overlooked. This lack of respect, according to Abhijeet, led to him walking away from his association with the superstar.

No Grudges, But SRK Has Changed

When asked if Shah Rukh Khan ever tried to mend their relationship after the rift, Abhijeet clarified that while they may have drifted apart professionally, there were no personal grudges between them. He said, “It’s not that my relationship with SRK is broken,” explaining that SRK has become such a massive star that he’s no longer just a regular person. Abhijeet believed that Shah Rukh may not even realize how much his status has changed over time, and because of this, he no longer expected anything from him.

Abhijeet also spoke about how their paths diverged as both men grew older. “I am still the same person I was,” he said. “I’m 5-6 years older than him. He’s over 60, and I’m also in my 60s.” Both being Scorpios, Abhijeet jokingly added, “We both have egos, but I’m the bigger Scorpio.” He made it clear that he didn’t need Shah Rukh Khan’s support anymore, and there was no reason for anyone to apologize.

Songs like “Woh Ladki Jo Sabse Alag Hai” from Baadshah, “Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha” from Baadshah, and the title track of Chalte Chalte are just a few examples of his work. His voice became synonymous with SRK’s charm, adding an extra layer to the actor’s on-screen persona.

The Recent Controversy with Dua Lipa

Recently, Abhijeet’s son, Jay Bhattacharya, made headlines when he criticized singer Dua Lipa for not crediting his father after performing a mashup of Levitating and the song “Woh Ladki Jo Sabse Alag Hai” during a concert in Mumbai. Abhijeet himself expressed his disappointment over not being credited for his iconic work, which was widely recognized in Bollywood. Jay took to Instagram to voice his frustration over the situation, calling out Dua Lipa for not acknowledging Abhijeet’s contribution to the song.

Abhijeet Bhattacharya’s honest reflection on his rift with Shah Rukh Khan sheds light on the challenges that come with fame and recognition. While he has no ill feelings toward the actor, he has chosen to prioritize his own dignity and self-respect. Despite stepping away from singing for Shah Rukh, he continues to stand strong in his journey, with no regrets about the past.
