Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt may be set to reunite after the success of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. According to a report by Mid-Day, Alia Bhatt is being considered for the female lead in Ranveer Singh’s upcoming zombie thriller Pralay, directed by Jai Mehta. While the makers are yet to make an official announcement, the potential casting has already sparked strong buzz.
The report suggests that Pralay is expected to go on floors between July and August 2026, placing it among the most ambitious projects currently in development.
Alia Bhatt’s Role Said To Be Central to the Narrative
Quoting industry sources, Mid-Day reports that Alia Bhatt is director Jai Mehta’s first choice for the female lead. The role is said to be far from a conventional love interest.
“The female lead is central to the narrative. She isn’t introduced as a love interest. She challenges the hero’s ideas in a collapsing world. Who could wield that power better than Bhatt?” a source revealed.
The report further notes that Alia’s credibility and audience trust make her an ideal fit for a film that aims to be experimental and emotionally layered.
Pralay Marks Ranveer Singh’s Entry Into Zombie Cinema
Pralay will mark Ranveer Singh’s first foray into the zombie genre. Directed by Jai Mehta, son of acclaimed filmmaker Hansal Mehta, the film will be Jai’s feature directorial debut after co-directing the highly praised series Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story.

The film reportedly uses the zombie apocalypse as a metaphor to explore social, emotional, and moral collapse, positioning it as more than a conventional horror thriller.
A Devastated Mumbai As the Film’s Backdrop
Sources reveal that Pralay will present Mumbai in a near-unrecognisable, dystopian form, drawing visual inspiration from The Hunger Games. The makers are said to be combining large-scale physical sets with AI-driven digital extensions to depict decay and abandonment across the city.
“Large portions of Mumbai will be digitally aged to reflect decay and abandonment,” a source shared, adding that filming will begin in Mumbai before moving to other locations.
What’s Next for Ranveer Singh
Apart from Pralay, Ranveer Singh has Dhurandhar 2 – Revenge lined up, which is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 19, 2026. The film is expected to clash at the box office with Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups.
With a zombie thriller, a high-profile sequel, and momentum from Dhurandhar, Ranveer appears to be entering one of the most genre-diverse phases of his career.
Alia Bhatt’s Upcoming Lineup
Alia Bhatt will next be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War. Reports suggest the makers are planning to unveil the first glimpse of the film in January 2026. However, according to Bollywood Hungama, the project is currently running behind schedule, and its release may be delayed.
It is also reported that Bhansali has asked the lead actors to block dates until summer 2026 to complete the film. Additionally, Alia is gearing up for the release of Alpha, while Ranbir Kapoor will be seen portraying Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana.
Jay-Ho Exclusive
If the reports are true, Pralay could mark a compelling new chapter for both Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt — blending star power with a genre rarely explored in mainstream Hindi cinema. With a dystopian vision of Mumbai, a socially driven zombie narrative, and a director known for grounded storytelling, the film has the potential to stand out beyond spectacle. As audiences await official confirmation, Pralay already feels like one of the most intriguing and unconventional projects on the horizon.
