Originally from a small town in India, budding artist Wish considers Vancouver as her home. Recently, the young artist released her debut single, Nevermind on her YouTube channel which is gaining a lot of admiration from the netizens. As Jay-Ho! The Jay Kumar show! is always delighted to showcase fresh talents, we approached the vocalist to learn more about her and her musical aspirations.

Jay-Ho!: Hello Wish, how are you doing?

Wish: Hey, I am doing great, thanks for asking!

Jay-Ho!: We are sure with your debut single many people already know you. For those who do not know you yet, can you please introduce yourself?

Wish: Sure. I’m an artist known by the name, Wish. Even before I knew what singer-songwriters were or what they did, I was already one. I was raised in a family that emphasized the importance of securing a stable job, but music was always my passion. Writing stories and poems has been a consistent part of my life, and as I became proficient in writing, I found my most comfortable means of self-expression was combining words with melody.

Jay-Ho!: Since when are you pursuing music?

Wish: Honestly, my journey into music began in the 10th grade. I had always loved singing and writing, but it wasn’t until I had the opportunity to perform as the lead singer on a stage that something clicked for me. Seeing people in the audience watching, listening, and applauding was a transformative experience. I craved those moments of applause, and it dawned on me that I was destined to perform on stage as an artist. In that instant, I felt truly blessed and knew I had to embrace this gift and share it with the world.

Jay-Ho!: Can you share some highlights from your musical journey?

Wish: I’ve always been drawn to songwriting and singing and frequently performed at open mic events, honing my craft and building my confidence. Recently, I took a significant step in my journey by releasing my debut single, NeverMind. It marks a meaningful milestone in my musical career, and I’m thrilled to have taken this step. The release of NeverMind signifies the beginning of a new chapter in my musical journey, and I’m excited to see where it leads. The early response and feedback have been encouraging and inspiring. As I continue to create, perform, and share my music, I look forward to many more exciting moments and achievements in my musical career.

Jay-Ho!: Sounds fantastic! So, who inspired you to become a musician?

Wish: My source of inspiration to become a musician is undoubtedly my Mom. Her beauty isn’t just in her appearance but also in her voice. I fondly recall the times when she used to support and prepare me for my singing class. Thanks to her guidance and unwavering encouragement, she shielded me from stage fright. My Mom truly is the driving force behind my musical journey.

Jay-Ho!: Can you elaborate on your song Nevermind

Wish: I have an extensive library of songs, and when it came time to choose which one to release, I reflected on the message I wanted to convey. I’m generally a positive and happy individual, and I couldn’t help but notice the emotional struggles people around me were going through. I would often tell them, “Nevermind, everything is going to be alright!” and I found solace in those words myself. That’s where the idea for Nevermind was born.

The song carries a message of hope and resilience, reassuring that, regardless of the challenges, everything will ultimately be okay. Nevermind tells a story through its lyrics, capturing the bittersweet essence of reminiscing about a past relationship. It explores the journey of emotions that gradually diminish in intensity with time, while the memories still hold a special place in the heart. I’m delighted with the response I’m getting. Within just one month of its release, the song has already garnered 100,000 views on YouTube. It’s heartening to see that people are connecting with the story and grooving to the beats.

Jay-Ho!: That’s truly inspiring for a young musician like you. Wish, do you have any role models as an artist?

Wish: Taylor Swift is my role model. I admire her not only for her musical talent but also for her personality. She effortlessly balances her life and music, skillfully reflecting the different phases of her life in her songs. Her ability to handle both the good and bad energies that come with growth in a graceful and optimistic manner resonates deeply with me. She stands as a role model not just as a singer-songwriter but as a person, inspiring me to approach life with a similar grace and optimism.

Jay-Ho!: What’s your goal as an artist?

Wish: My goal as an artist is to touch the hearts of people all over the world. I aim to create music that resonates with individuals, regardless of their emotions or experiences. I aspire to be a diverse artist, someone with whom everyone can connect and find their own story in the music. I want to craft songs and stories that make people say, “This is my song!” by providing something connectable and relatable for each and every person.

Jay-Ho!: We hope you surely reach that goal. Any life mantra that you rely on?

Wish: My life mantra is pretty simple and straightforward. I’ve observed people making their lives unnecessarily complicated, so my mantra has always been clear: I don’t want a complicated life – I want a happy one. As a naturally happy person, I’m dedicated to spreading happiness in the world in the best way I can. I live in the present without second-guessing or relying on someone else’s opinions. I hold a deep belief in the energy of the Universe and its influence on our lives.

Jay-Ho!: Wish, can you complete this sentence? Music to me is………

Wish: To me, music is like a best friend. It’s that confidant you can share your heart with. Whenever I’m overwhelmed with strong emotions, whether it’s excitement, sadness, or anything in between, music is the first thing that comes to my mind and heart. I find solace in creating a new song, and it becomes my way of expressing those feelings.

Jay-Ho!: Love to hear that! Before parting, will you please share about your upcoming projects with our readers?

Wish: Why not? (smiles) I have five songs currently in production, two in English and three in Hindi. These songs are set to be released within the next six months. Additionally, I’m in discussions with two labels for a significant project, which will be a tribute to Lord Shiva. It’s an exciting time, and I look forward to sharing this music with my audience!
