Many of us were mesmerized by the deep voice’s rendition of “Tanha Dil Tanha Safar” due to its profound and lovely lyrics. And that voice no longer requires an introduction. He is none other than the well-known Bollywood playback singer Shantanu Mukherjee, best known as Shaan.

A gift from ancestors

Music is something Shaan’s ancestors passed down to him. He is genetically predisposed to music. His late father, Manas Mukherjee, was a music director, and his sister Sagarika is also a singer and actor. His grandfather, Jahar Mukherjee, was a well-known lyricist.

Debut at 17 years old

Tanha Dil, Chaand Sifarish, and other hits are among the many that Shaan has in his discography. He had to confront multiple challenges in his life before becoming successful. Commencing with his first song, Shaan debuted as a playback vocalist for the movie Parinda. He accompanied his younger sister in singing one line of the song “Kitni Hai Pyari Pyari.” Shaan was just 17 years old at the time.

Despite being a tremendous accomplishment for Shaan, it was insufficient for him to gain attention as a singer. He began singing jingles for commercials. After some time, he began singing cover versions and remixes.Later, Shaan and his sister joined Magnasound and recorded a number of hit albums, including Naujawan and Q-Funk.

Huge number of Hits & accolades

On his album Tanha Dil, which was one of the top chartbusters in 1999, Shaan wrote the lyrics to the ballad “Bhool Ja.” He released the top song “Tanha Dil Tanha Safar” in 2000. He received the MTV Asia Award for Favorite Artist India in 2002 for his album Tanha Dil, which won best solo album. Shaan launched his successful album Aksar a year later, featuring songs with international musicians like Blue, Melanie C, and Samira Said.

Shaan was a top-tier singer in Bollywood up until that point. His voice could be heard in every other movie. In addition to singing Hindi songs, Shaan has also made a significant contribution to the Bengali music scene. He sang on several more albums than studio ones, namely Channel Hits, Bollywood Sensation 2, Club Class, A Reason to Smile, and others.

He has gained fame as an Indian Pop & Playback singer, actor and television presenter active in Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Assamese, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam and Urdu language films and a television host. He hosted the shows Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs, Star Voice of India and STAR Voice of India 2.
