Karan Johar’s much-discussed sequel Dostana 2 has finally found its female lead. After multiple casting changes over the years, the romantic comedy is reportedly moving ahead with former Miss India World Sini Shetty stepping into the role initially associated with Janhvi Kapoor.
The film, backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma banner, has seen significant reshuffling since its original announcement featuring Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Lakshya. Kartik exited the project after reportedly shooting for over two weeks, and Janhvi is no longer part of the revamped version. Vikrant Massey has since replaced Kartik, while Lakshya continues to remain associated with the film.
Sini Shetty To Replace Janhvi Kapoor?
According to reports, Sini Shetty has been finalised as the new female lead after the makers evaluated multiple options. Crowned Miss India World in 2022, Sini will mark her acting debut with this high-profile romantic comedy.
Industry sources suggest that Sini has long aspired to enter films, and landing a project under a major banner marks a significant launchpad. The report further indicates that she has also signed a smaller-budget thriller, though details about that venture remain under wraps.
Revamped As A Prime Video Feature
In a notable shift, Dostana 2 is reportedly being reworked as a Prime Video feature film. The project will now be directed by Advait Chandan, best known for helming Laal Singh Chaddha.
The script is currently undergoing revisions after an earlier draft was said to resemble another project. Despite starring relatively new actors, the platform has reportedly sanctioned a substantial budget, positioning the film as a grand-scale romantic entertainer.
Production is expected to commence in the third quarter of the year, pending completion of the rewritten script.

Vikrant Massey has already confirmed his involvement, expressing excitement about collaborating with Dharma Productions for the first time. In an earlier interview, he acknowledged that he is indeed part of Dostana 2, marking a notable addition to his evolving filmography.

After facing multiple setbacks, Dostana 2 appears to be charting a new course. With a fresh cast lineup, a revised script, and backing from a major streaming platform, the sequel is positioning itself for a modern reboot rather than a conventional continuation.
