On Sunday morning, British singer Ed Sheeran surprised fans in Bengaluru with an unannounced street performance on Church Street. The pop star, known for hits like “Shape of You” and “Perfect,” casually set up and started singing for an excited crowd. However, the moment was cut short when Bengaluru police stopped him mid-performance.

A video of the incident quickly went viral on social media, sparking mixed reactions from fans. While some people criticized the police for stopping an international star, others praised them for simply doing their job.

Reddit Reacts to the Viral Video

A Reddit user posted the video with the caption, “A police officer pulled the plug when Ed Sheeran surprised everyone on Church Street” followed by laughing emojis. In the video, Sheeran was seen wearing casual clothes and sunglasses while singing his famous song “Shape of You.” Suddenly, police officers unplugged his microphone, interrupting the performance.

Sheeran, surprised by the interruption, told the crowd, “We have the permission to be here, but this policeman is shutting it down.” Fans were quick to share their thoughts on social media.

One Reddit user commented, “Hahaha, one of those ‘Only in India’ moments!” Another person wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “International artist @edsheeran was stopped from playing in #Bangalore at Church Street. Even though he had permission, the cops pulled the plug. Damn sad!”

Another fan called the situation “very embarrassing,” while someone joked, “Iska challan pounds mein niklega (his fine will be issued in pounds).”

Support for the Police

Not everyone was against the police’s decision. Some users defended them, saying they were only doing their job.

One person wrote, “He’s just doing his job!” Another praised the officer, saying, “Lmaooo, uncle doesn’t discriminate between foreign artists and local street singers! He deserves an award.”

Some people even compared the situation to the recent stampede at a Pushpa 2 event, where fans rushed to see actor Allu Arjun. “This will block the road, create issues, and finally lead to a stampede. Have you forgotten what happened when Allu Arjun visited the cinema hall to surprise fans?” one person commented.

Even though Sheeran claimed he had permission for the performance, the Bengaluru Police have not yet made an official statement regarding the incident.

Ed Sheeran’s India Tour 2025

Ed Sheeran is currently in India as part of his “Mathematics Tour.” Before coming to Bengaluru, he had already performed in Hyderabad and Chennai. In Chennai, he even performed a special version of the classic “Urvasi” song with legendary Indian composer A.R. Rahman.

Sheeran is set to perform in Bengaluru on February 8, followed by shows in Shillong on February 12 and Delhi NCR on February 15. Fans are eagerly waiting to see him live, hoping for no further interruptions!

Final Thoughts

The incident has sparked a debate online about whether the police were right to stop the performance. While some believe it was unfair to Sheeran, others argue that rules should be followed, no matter who is performing.

What do you think? Was it an unfortunate moment, or were the police just doing their duty?
