When it comes to traditional wear, the anarkali suit is a timeless favorite. It’s elegant, easy to wear, and perfect for any festive occasion. But recently, actor and entrepreneur Genelia Deshmukh gave this classic outfit a fresh twist—and her unique styling is a perfect example of how to make ethnic fashion feel new and exciting.

Genelia Deshmukh’s Unique Look for a Star-Studded Celebration

Genelia Deshmukh attended the wedding reception of South actor Akhil Akkineni and Zainab Ravdjee in Hyderabad, held in June 2025. The event saw several well-known names from the South film industry, including Ram Charan, Yash, Mahesh Babu, Naga Chaitanya, and Sobhita Dhulipala. Genelia arrived with her husband, actor Riteish Deshmukh, looking stunning in a custom outfit by designer Jayanti Reddy.

Mixing Traditional Styles with a Twist

Instead of wearing her anarkali with the usual dupatta, Genelia chose to style it with a Banarasi saree. Her outfit was a deep purple silk anarkali featuring multiple pleats (kalis) and a plunging neckline. She paired it with a handwoven Banarasi saree in the same purple shade, which had a rich zardozi embroidered border in navy blue. The saree added depth and elegance to the overall look, making the outfit stand out in the crowd.

To complete her ensemble, she carried a matching purple potli bag, also detailed with traditional zardozi work. This clever mix of two traditional garments—the anarkali and the saree—created a beautifully balanced and creative festive outfit.

Statement Jewellery and Elegant Glam

For accessories, Genelia wore handcrafted jewellery from Razwada Jewels. Her look included striking Kaan Shear earrings, featuring polki diamonds, Colombian emeralds, pink tourmalines, and a large central polki set in 18k gold. She also wore a traditional hathphool (hand ornament) made with polki, Zambian emeralds, and pearls. A mix of gold bangles and kadas completed her jewellery look, adding to the rich, festive feel.

Genelia kept her makeup soft yet glam, with smoky eyes and a glossy nude lip. Her hair was styled in a neat bun, adorned with a fresh white gajra, adding the perfect finishing touch to her traditional appearance.

Why Her Look Stands Out

Anarkalis have always been a go-to for festive dressing. They’re lightweight, comfortable, and look regal without trying too hard. What made Genelia’s look special, however, was how she reimagined the styling of the anarkali by pairing it with a saree. This unexpected mix created something that felt both traditional and refreshing.

Her look is a great inspiration for anyone looking to experiment with Indian wear, especially during the festive or wedding season. It’s proof that you don’t always need to follow the expected rules of fashion. Sometimes, mixing two classics can give you a look that’s both modern and timeless.

In short, Genelia Deshmukh’s outfit is a masterclass in how to make ethnic wear feel new again—effortless, elegant, and full of personality.
