Golmaal 5 to Be Shot in Mumbai Film City, Sets Expected to Wrap by February

Filmmaker Rohit Shetty is reportedly preparing to shoot Golmaal 5 at Mumbai’s Film City, marking a departure from his usual shooting locations. According to industry reports, multiple large-scale sets are currently under construction and are expected to be completed by February, ahead of the film going on floors in early 2026.

The update comes amid growing anticipation for the fifth instalment of the hugely popular Golmaal franchise, which was subtly teased during the end credits of Son of Sardaar 2.

What Happened?

As per a report by Bollywood Hungama, Rohit Shetty has decided to base a major portion of Golmaal 5’s shoot at Film City, Mumbai, instead of his preferred locations like Goa or Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad.

The report states that several elaborate sets—including a café, a police station, and a palatial residence—are being constructed within the Film City complex. These sets are expected to be ready by the beginning of February, allowing the production to move swiftly once filming begins.

This approach is also said to offer logistical ease, enabling actors to stay in Mumbai and report to the sets as required.

Official Confirmation or Sources

While the makers have not issued an official statement yet, the information has been attributed to sources quoted by Bollywood Hungama and Pinkvilla, both established entertainment trade publications.

According to the Bollywood Hungama source, an initial idea to construct an even larger set by filling up the lake inside Film City was discussed but later dropped.

Why the Lake Plan Was Dropped

The report adds that Film City authorities rejected the proposal to fill the lake due to ecological concerns. The presence of wildlife, including crocodiles, made the idea both impractical and unsafe.

The production team, led by Rohit Shetty, reportedly acknowledged these concerns and instead chose to build the required sets near the lake, without disturbing the natural environment.

Jay-Ho! Insight

The Golmaal franchise remains one of Hindi cinema’s most successful comedy series, and expectations around its fifth instalment are particularly high. Rohit Shetty’s decision to shoot largely in Mumbai reflects a growing trend of filmmakers prioritising convenience, controlled environments, and sustainability without compromising scale.

Before starting Golmaal 5, Shetty is currently focused on completing the Rakesh Maria biopic starring John Abraham, which is scheduled to wrap by September 2025. Post-production on that film is expected to be locked by the end of the year.

What’s Next?

As per a Pinkvilla report, Golmaal 5 is expected to go on floors by February or March 2026, immediately after Shetty completes his work on the biopic. Casting details and plot specifics remain under wraps for now.

Fans can expect more official announcements once the sets are completed and the shoot formally begins.

Jay-Ho! will update this story as more details emerge.
