Boston, MA – In a momentous gathering that epitomized unity and cultural vibrancy, over 50 community and cultural organizations from New England came together to extend a warm welcome to the newly appointed Consul General of India, Binaya Srikant Pradhan. Hosted by the Foundation of Indian Associations (FIA) New England, the event celebrated the rich diversity of the Indian diaspora in the region.
The evening commenced with a captivating cultural program curated by the FIA-NE team, led by Mr. Abhishek Singh. Attendees were treated to mesmerizing dance and musical performances, showcasing the cultural tapestry of India and the talent within the community.
Dignitaries including State Representative Robert Lancia, Harvard Alumni Mrinalini Darshwal, Deputy Consul General Dr. Varun Jeph, and FIA-NE Board of Trustee Sandeep Asija delivered inspirational speeches, emphasizing the importance of Indo-US partnerships and cooperation. Professor Balram Singh also shared insightful reflections on fostering understanding between nations.
A highlight of the event was the interaction with Consul General Binaya Srikant Pradhan, who graciously addressed questions from the audience. Among the topics discussed were the establishment of a VFS Service Center in Boston and the possibility of a direct flight from Boston to India.
Acknowledging the significant Indian diaspora in the New England area, Consul General Pradhan affirmed his commitment to pursuing the establishment of a VFS Service Center, recognizing its importance in providing convenience and support to the community. The announcement was met with enthusiastic applause from attendees.
Addressing the aspiration for a direct flight from Boston to India, Consul General Pradhan shared insights from his experience and assured full cooperation in pursuing this endeavor. He highlighted the support received from the Indian government, including correspondence with Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, facilitated by former MP Suresh Prabhu.
In addition to fostering diplomatic ties, the event also served as a platform for community recognition. Consul General Pradhan presented the FIA Lifetime Award to Giri Vardhan for his exemplary service in education, underscoring the contributions of individuals to the community.
The evening concluded with a curtain-raiser for the Third ‘International India Day Parade’ to be celebrated on 10th Aug 2024 in Boston Harbor, with Consul General Pradhan invited as the Guest of Honor. The parade, which attracts thousands of attendees from over 35 countries, symbolizes the unity and pride of the Indian diaspora.
In a message of gratitude, FIA-New England executives Anand Sharma and Rakesh Kavsari expressed their appreciation for the overwhelming support and participation in the event.
