Release Date and Synopsis
Netflix India’s official Instagram handle announced that Maharaj will premiere on June 14 exclusively on Netflix. The movie is based on true events and portrays a fight for truth between a powerful man and a fearless journalist.
Set in 1862, Maharaj takes place during a time when India had only three universities, Rabindranath Tagore was just a year old, and the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 continued to inspire the fight for independence. The story focuses on a landmark legal battle that brought significant social changes more than 160 years ago.
The True Story Behind Maharaj
Maharaj revolves around Karsandas Mulji, a journalist and social reformer who was a strong advocate for women’s rights. Mulji, a student at Elphinstone College in Mumbai and a protégé of the scholar-leader Dadabhai Naoroji, wrote extensively on widow remarriage and stood up for the oppressed, planting seeds of social reform. The plot thickens with the Maharaj Libel Case of 1862, which was sparked by allegations of misconduct against a prominent figure. This case drew widespread attention and is considered one of the most significant legal battles in history.
The film also features a special appearance by Sharvari Wagh, adding more excitement to the already star-studded cast.
Junaid Khan
unaid Khan was born in 1994 to Aamir Khan and his first wife, Reena Dutta. Even before his debut, Junaid has been busy with two other films. He is set to make his debut as a producer with Pritam Pyaare, which will feature an extended guest appearance by Aamir Khan himself. Additionally, Junaid will star in a film backed by Aamir Khan Productions, also featuring Sai Pallavi.
What to Expect
With a compelling storyline based on true events, strong performances by a talented cast, and the backing of notable production houses, Maharaj is poised to be a gripping film. Viewers can look forward to a powerful narrative that sheds light on an important chapter in India’s history, all while witnessing the debut of Junaid Khan in the Bollywood industry.
Mark your calendars for June 14 and get ready to stream Maharaj on Netflix. This historical drama promises to be a must-watch for fans of compelling storytelling and significant historical events.
