Akshay Kumar is back with another powerful historical film. This time, he steps into the shoes of C Sankaran Nair, a brave lawyer who dared to challenge the British Empire after the tragic Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Titled Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, the film is directed by Karan Johar and brings to life a story that many people don’t know about.
A Teaser That Sends Chills
The teaser for Kesari Chapter 2 opens with a warning: “These visuals are too horrific to display.” Then, we hear the heartbreaking voices of the victims of the massacre. The narration describes the terror as the British Army opened fire on a peaceful gathering in Amritsar in 1919. People tried to climb the walls to escape. Some even jumped into a well to avoid getting shot. The voiceover lasts for just 30 seconds, but we’re reminded that the real massacre lasted a full 10 minutes.
Akshay Kumar as C Sankaran Nair
After this emotional opening, we see Akshay Kumar make his entrance. He’s not a soldier this time but a lawyer, dressed in a black robe. This sets the tone—Kesari 2 isn’t a war film, but a courtroom drama. It focuses on how C Sankaran Nair stood up to the British and demanded justice for what happened at Jallianwala Bagh.
In one powerful moment, a British officer tries to intimidate him by saying, “Nobody has ever won against the British Empire. Don’t forget, you are still a slave of the British.” Akshay’s character responds with strong defiance, showing that this film is about courage, truth, and justice.

Based on a True Story
Kesari Chapter 2 is not just fiction. It’s based on real events and adapted from the book “The Case That Shook the Empire” by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. Raghu Palat is the great-grandson of C Sankaran Nair, which adds a personal connection to the story.
Who Was C Sankaran Nair?
C Sankaran Nair was a respected Indian lawyer and politician. In 1897, he served as the President of the Indian National Congress. After the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, he was so disturbed by the brutality that he resigned from the Viceroy’s Executive Council—a bold move at the time.
He later went to England and publicly accused Michael O’Dwyer, the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, of being responsible for the massacre. O’Dwyer sued Nair for defamation, thinking the British court would take his side. But Nair bravely stood his ground and fought the case in a British court, with a British judge and jury.
A Story of Courage and Justice
Kesari Chapter 2 brings this incredible real-life story to the big screen. It’s not just about history—it’s about a man who refused to stay silent in the face of injustice. With powerful performances and a gripping courtroom setting, the film aims to inspire viewers and remind them of the brave individuals who shaped India’s fight for freedom.
