Nana Patekar as Ma’at Saab: A Mentor at the Centre of Power
At the heart of the story is Ma’at Saab, portrayed by Nana Patekar — an influential educator whose authority is shaped by Sanskaar (values), Satta (power), and Samarpan (devotion).
The trailer sets the tone for an intense ideological and political battle, hinting at a complex mentor-mentee relationship where admiration slowly blurs into rivalry. As ambition escalates, the series explores the moral dilemmas that arise when guidance transforms into control.
Speaking about stepping into the OTT space, Nana Patekar said:
“Playing Ma’at saab has been a huge learning and it led me to explore a new dimension. It’s a character layered with silence, conflict and consequences. Working again with Prakash Jha is always special because he tells stories that don’t spell everything out. They mirror the world as it is, and they stay with you. Lastly, this project becomes extra special as I mark my debut in the OTT world with Amazon MX Player and can’t wait for audiences to experience the world of Sankalp.”
Prakash Jha’s Continued Exploration of Power Politics
Known for his socio-political narratives, Prakash Jha returns to familiar territory with Sankalp, yet promises a layered and contemporary storytelling approach. The series appears to carry his signature style — grounded realism, morally grey characters, and intense ideological confrontations.
Amogh Dusad, Director and Head of Content at Amazon MX Player, highlighted the platform’s vision behind backing the project:
“Sankalp is a sharp, contemporary socio-political thriller with larger-than-life characters that explores power, belief, and motivations. The series reflects our focus on culturally rooted stories that spark meaningful conversations. It also continues our long-standing creative collaboration with Prakash Jha, whose distinctive voice has delivered many impactful narratives. We are also delighted to collaborate with Nana Patekar as he makes his streaming debut with Amazon MX Player.”
What to Expect from Sankalp
With its layered characters, political intrigue and ideological battles, Sankalp promises a high-stakes narrative driven by ambition and belief systems. The interplay between tradition and modernity, mentor and challenger, power and principle is expected to form the emotional backbone of the series.
Jay-Ho Unplugged
Marking Nana Patekar’s first step into the streaming world, Sankalp positions itself as a thought-provoking socio-political drama that merges ancient strategic philosophies with present-day realities. With Prakash Jha at the helm and a powerful ensemble cast backing the narrative, the March 11 premiere on Amazon MX Player is set to draw significant attention from audiences seeking intense, politically charged storytelling.
