Even as Indian entertainers have started creeping into global consciousness, yet another news brings cheer to Indians everywhere. This Oscar 2023 will see Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone join the list of presenters at the Academy Awards, a list that includes Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, and legends like Samuel L. Jackson.
The 95th Academy Awards will be held on March 12 (March 13 IST) at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre.2023 is also a special year for India as three Indian movies are in the race for Oscars Awards 2023.
Deepika shared the news on her social media handle. This nomination marks yet another international outing for Deepika who was on the jury at the Cannes Film Festival last year on the occasion of its 75th-anniversary celebration. Outside of entertainment, Deepika also unveiled the FIFA World Cup trophy on the eve of the final match between Argentina and France.
The actress is currently basking in the success of the Shah Rukh starrer Pathaan. Deepika will be joined by Dwayne Johnson, Michael B Jordan, Riz Ahmed, Emily Blunt, Glenn Close, Troy Kotsur, Dwayne Johnson, Jennifer Connelly,, Melissa McCarthy, Zoe Saldana, Donnie Yen, Jonathan Majors and Questlove.On the work front, She is in involved in a sci-fi movie, tentatively titled Project K, alongside Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan.
However, Deepika is not the first person to be given this honor. That belongs to Persis Khambatta who was the first Indian person to ever present at the Academy Awards in 1980. The next Indian to do so was Priyanka Chopra at the 88th Academy Awards in 2016, alongside Steve Carell, Jared Leto, Julianne Moore, Olivia Munn, Margot Robbie, Jason Segel, Andy Serkis, Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon.
