Aamir Khan and Urmila Matondkar’s beloved classic Rangeela is headed back to cinemas, almost 30 years after it first dazzled audiences in 1995. The Ram Gopal Varma directorial, remembered as one of Bollywood’s most iconic romantic dramas, is set for a refreshed 4K HD theatrical re-release on November 28, giving fans a chance to relive its magic like never before.
The announcement has sparked a wave of nostalgia, reminding viewers of a film that changed the landscape of Bollywood romance, music, and style.

Aamir Khan Calls It One of His “Most Favourite Films”

Ahead of its re-release, Aamir Khan shared his excitement in a special video posted by Ultra Play. Speaking in Hindi, the superstar said warmly:
“This is one of my most favourite films. I really enjoyed playing my character in it. And it has amazing songs—AR Rahman was at his peak. Urmila’s performance is outstanding, and Jaggu (Jackie Shroff) has also done a great job.”
His heartfelt words underline just how deeply the film is etched in his memory and artistic journey.

Remembering Rajesh Joshi: Aamir’s Emotional Tribute

Aamir also took the opportunity to fondly remember his late co-star Rajesh Joshi, who played Pakya in the film.
“There is another actor in the film with me whose character was named Pakya, and the actor’s name was Rajesh Joshi… he did a fantastic job. He was an excellent actor, and this was his first film,” Aamir said.
He added that Joshi, who later appeared in Sarfarosh, tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident, cutting short what could have been a remarkable career.
Aamir’s tribute highlighted the lesser-known but deeply emotional stories behind the making of Rangeela.

A Film That Defined an Era

Rangeela is loved not just for its characters and performances but for its unforgettable soundtrack composed by AR Rahman. Songs like Rangeela Re, Mangta Hai Kya, Tanha Tanha, Hai Rama, and Yaaron Sun Lo Zara became instant chartbusters and remain timeless favourites.
The film also marked a major transformation in Bollywood styling, music, and storytelling, influencing a generation of filmmakers and performers.

Aamir Invites Fans Back to Theatres

Reflecting on the film’s legacy, Aamir said,
“Ram Gopal Varma made an exceptional film. You can enjoy this film once again in theatres from November 28. I hope you all like it. Loads of love.”
With its upgraded visuals and restored sound, the re-release promises to bring back the original charm of Rangeela for longtime fans while introducing it to a whole new generation.

As excitement builds for its grand comeback, Rangeela stands poised to recreate its 1995 magic. Whether it’s the music, the performances, or the unforgettable love triangle, the film’s re-release is set to be a nostalgic celebration of one of Bollywood’s most cherished classics.
