Born in Belgaum and raised in Solapur, Atul’s path to acting was not a direct one. After completing his 10th standard in Solapur, he initially pursued engineering in Pune but soon realized that his heart wasn’t aligned with the course. He decided to drop out and returned to Solapur to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Arts. It was during this time that he discovered his inclination towards acting.

At the age of 27, Atul Kulkarni enrolled in the prestigious National School of Drama, where he honed his skills and nurtured his passion for the craft. Three years later, at the age of 30, he emerged from the institution, ready to conquer the world of cinema.
During his time at NSD, Atul had the privilege of being surrounded by immensely talented individuals, including seniors like Adil Hussain and Zakir Hussain, and juniors such as Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Swanand Kirkire, and Rajpal Yadav. The university became a cocoon of artistic expression, a place where acting was not just performed but lived, discussed, and contemplated. Atul fondly recalled how those three years were like stepping into another world, wholly dedicated to the art of acting. The result of this intense dedication, he asserted, was akin to ten years’ worth of experience that everyone emerged with.
After completing his acting course, Atul Kulkarni stepped into the world of cinema in Mumbai. His craft quickly garnered attention, and he soon became a prominent figure in the industry. Over the years, Atul has graced the screen with memorable performances in movies such as Hey Ram, Chandni Bar, Run, Dum, Rang De Basanti, Raees, The Ghazi Attack, and many more.
