Suriya’s upcoming movie, “Suriya 44,” which has been titled Retro, is creating a lot of buzz with its thrilling action sequences and emotional romance. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, this film marks the first collaboration between the actor and the filmmaker. The makers have shared a sneak peek of the movie, revealing the title and a teaser on Christmas, which has sparked the curiosity of fans.

A Sneak Peek into Retro

The teaser, lasting a little over two minutes, gives viewers a glimpse into the world of Retro. The video begins with a serene scene where Suriya and Pooja Hegde are seated by the Varanasi ghat, with the evening aarti playing in the background. Pooja is seen wearing a light pink sari, while Suriya sports a black kurta. In this calm moment, Pooja ties a band around Suriya’s wrist as he gazes into her eyes.

In a deeply emotional moment, Suriya, speaking in Tamil, tells Pooja: “I will control my temper. I will stop working with my father. I’ll quit all violence, rowdyism, and hooliganism. From this moment, I’ll try to smile and be happy. The purpose of my life, or Dhammam in your words, is love. Pure love. That’s it. I’m saying this with a clear heart. Now, tell me, should we get married?” Pooja responds with a kiss on his forehead and a smile, signaling her approval.

However, the calm moment soon gives way to glimpses of Suriya’s other life—the violent and criminal world he is a part of. Flashbacks show Suriya’s character struggling to escape the criminal world he’s inherited from his father. In these scenes, Suriya is seen punching through walls, brutally attacking enemies, smoking cigarettes, and drinking with dangerous men. The teaser also introduces other menacing characters, played by well-known actors like Joju George, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, and Nasser, adding to the intrigue of the film.

What to Expect from Retro

Fans can expect Retro to be a perfect blend of action, romance, and drama. Suriya’s character appears to be complex—balancing his violent past with his desire to live a peaceful life for the woman he loves. The film’s tagline, “Love, Laughter, and War,” hints at the emotional depth and action-packed sequences that will unfold on screen.

The film is produced by Suriya and his wife Jyothika’s production company, 2D Entertainment, in collaboration with Stone Bench Films. The music is composed by Santhosh Narayanan, with cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna and editing by Shafique Mohamed Ali. It is slated to release in May 2025, creating even more excitement for fans awaiting its arrival in cinemas.

Suriya’s Upcoming Project

Suriya was last seen in the action-packed fantasy film Kanguva earlier this year. Following Retro, he has another exciting project lined up with RJ Balaji, which will also mark his long-awaited reunion with actress Trisha Krishnan. The duo, who were last seen together almost 20 years ago in the 2005 film Aaru, will team up once again. They had previously worked together in Mounam Pesiyadhe (2002) and were also part of the ensemble cast of Mani Ratnam’s Aayutha Ezhuthu (2004). Fans are eagerly awaiting their onscreen chemistry in this new project.
