Chand Mera Dil Earns Rs 11.10 Crore, But The Bigger Test Starts Now

Romantic dramas usually survive on emotional momentum.

The problem for Chand Mera Dil right now is that the momentum still feels uncertain.

Starring Ananya Panday and Lakshya, the film entered theatres on May 22 carrying expectations of becoming a youthful relationship drama that could connect strongly with younger audiences. But three days into its theatrical run, the numbers suggest audiences are responding more cautiously than passionately.

According to trade reports, Chand Mera Dil earned approximately ₹4.35 crore net in India on Day 3 across 4,722 shows, taking its domestic total to ₹11.10 crore net.

Its India gross currently stands at ₹13.23 crore, while overseas collections have reportedly reached ₹1.50 crore gross. The film’s worldwide gross now totals ₹14.73 crore.

While the weekend did show some growth, the pace remains slower than expected for a romance-led theatrical release.

The Film Is Growing, But Not Fast Enough

The challenge for Chand Mera Dil is not that audiences completely rejected it.

The issue is softer urgency.

Romantic dramas thrive when viewers emotionally recommend them to others — through conversations, social media clips, soundtrack replay value or strong emotional reactions after leaving theatres. So far, Chand Mera Dil has not fully entered that emotional conversation space.

The Day 3 jump helped stabilise the film slightly, but the growth still appears limited compared to stronger-performing modern romance dramas.

And in today’s theatrical climate, moderate growth often becomes risky very quickly.

Comparisons With Other Romance Films Are Becoming Hard To Ignore

The film is already being compared to recent romance-driven releases, especially because Bollywood love stories have become increasingly difficult to pull off theatrically.

One of the biggest comparisons emerging online is with Saiyaara, starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, which reportedly exploded at the box office and eventually became one of Indian cinema’s biggest romance blockbusters.

Against that benchmark, Chand Mera Dil feels considerably smaller in impact.

Still, the film is currently performing better than Ek Din, starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi. But even there, the gap is not dramatic enough to entirely shift the trade narrative.

The comparison with Ananya Panday’s own earlier release Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri may feel even more noticeable. That film reportedly earned ₹5.5 crore on its first Sunday alone — comfortably ahead of Chand Mera Dil’s Day 3 performance.

And comparisons like these inevitably shape public perception around theatrical success.

Audience Behaviour Around Romance Films Has Changed Dramatically

Perhaps the more important conversation is what Chand Mera Dil says about the current state of Bollywood romance films.

Audiences still love love stories.

But theatrical audiences now demand something emotionally unforgettable before committing to romance dramas on the big screen. Either the chemistry must become culturally viral, the music must dominate emotionally or the storytelling must generate strong relatability conversation online.

Otherwise, many viewers simply wait for OTT release announcements.

That behavioural shift is affecting multiple romance-led films across Bollywood right now.

Chand Mera Dil appears caught inside that transition phase — visually polished, emotionally sincere, but struggling to become a larger cultural conversation.

Ananya Panday And Lakshya Continue Exploring Softer Relationship Cinema

Despite the slower collections, the film still represents an interesting space in both actors’ careers.

Ananya Panday has increasingly leaned toward emotionally layered and relationship-driven storytelling in recent years, moving beyond purely glamorous commercial roles. Meanwhile, Lakshya continues building his identity through softer romantic performances rather than loud mass-market heroism.

That creative direction may still benefit the film long-term through streaming audiences, where intimate emotional dramas often perform more strongly than they initially do theatrically.

But for now, the film’s theatrical future depends heavily on whether audience connection deepens over the coming weekdays.

Because romance films rarely survive through numbers alone.

They survive through feeling.
