In a remarkable celebration of wellness, culture, and community spirit, the India Association of Greater Boston (IAGB) proudly partnered with the Consulate General of India, Boston to commemorate the International Day of Yoga 2026 on June 21 at One Federal Street, Boston. The event held special significance as it marked the first-ever International Day of Yoga celebration hosted by the Consulate General of India, Boston, making it a memorable milestone for the Indian diaspora and the wider community.

Bringing together community leaders, yoga enthusiasts, families, and young performers, the celebration beautifully reflected the timeless values of yoga while strengthening cultural ties and promoting holistic well-being.

A Warm Welcome to a Historic Celebration

The morning’s proceedings were gracefully emceed by Ms. Jharna Madan, whose warm and engaging presence ensured the event flowed seamlessly from start to finish.

The celebration commenced with welcome remarks by IAGB President Nilesh Agrawal, who expressed his appreciation for the partnership with the Consulate and highlighted IAGB‘s continued commitment to fostering community engagement through meaningful cultural and wellness initiatives.

The formal inauguration featured the traditional ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Consul General Shri Raghuram S, Deputy Consul General Ms. Shruthi Purushottam, IAGB President Nilesh Agrawal, and FIA President Abhishek Singh, symbolizing the spirit of knowledge, positivity, and unity.

Celebrating Yoga’s Global Message of Wellness

Addressing the gathering, Consul General Shri Raghuram S emphasized yoga’s growing global significance and India’s enduring leadership in sharing this ancient practice with the world. His inspiring remarks highlighted yoga as a powerful way to nurture physical health, mental well-being, and inner balance while fostering harmony across communities.

The audience then participated in a guided yoga session led by Sudhir Parikh ji and Niru Parikh ji, who introduced participants to traditional yoga postures, breathing techniques, and mindfulness practices. The session encouraged attendees of all ages to embrace yoga as a way of life and experience its holistic benefits.

Young Artists Add Cultural Vibrancy to the Event

Adding a vibrant cultural dimension to the celebration were captivating performances by talented students representing two respected institutions:

  • GuruKool Enrichment Center, founded by Arpita Das Pathak
  • Tarana School of Kathak, founded by Moumita Banerjee

The performances showcased India’s rich artistic heritage and complemented the event’s message of harmony, discipline, and cultural pride.
