Rajinikanth’s Dharman could miss the Pongal 2027 release window if Kamal Haasan’s Indian 3 arrives during the same festive period. Reports suggest that the action entertainer may move to April 30, 2027, although the makers have not confirmed the change.
Directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, Dharman is produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International. The potential scheduling change has drawn attention because Haasan is associated with both projects.
Why could Dharman skip Pongal 2027?
Dharman could reportedly move out of the Pongal window to avoid competing with Indian 3, which is also said to be targeting the festival.
According to reports attributed to Valai Pechu and Movies Singapore, the Indian 3 team is working towards a Pongal 2027 release. The reports suggest that the makers want to finish the remaining work before bringing the film to theatres.
If that plan goes ahead, Dharman could move to April 30, 2027. However, this date remains speculative, and neither film has an officially confirmed release date for the proposed window.
What is the reported release date for Dharman?
April 30, 2027, is the date mentioned in reports about a possible postponement, but it has not been confirmed by the makers.
The shift would place Dharman later in the year than its previously expected Pongal release. Reports have also pointed to Mahesh Babu and SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi, scheduled for April 7, 2027, as part of the wider release calendar.
For now, audiences should treat both the proposed April date and the reported Pongal plans as developments to watch, rather than final scheduling decisions.
What is the latest update on Indian 3?
Indian 3 is reportedly moving forward after uncertainty following the release of Indian 2 in 2024.
The third instalment continues the story of Senapathy, the character played by Kamal Haasan. Parts of Indian 3 were filmed alongside Indian 2, and the second film’s closing section teased a continuation of Senapathy’s story.
Recent reports indicate that director Shankar has resumed work on the sequel. The production is reportedly aiming to complete additional shooting before deciding on its theatrical rollout.
The reported Pongal 2027 target remains unconfirmed, however. A firm release announcement would be needed to establish whether Indian 3 will occupy the festive slot.
What is Dharman about, and who is in the cast?
Dharman is an upcoming Rajinikanth-led action entertainer directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, known for Dragon.
The project was previously identified by its working title, Thalaivar 173, before the title Dharman was announced. The film is produced by Kamal Haasan, bringing two major Tamil cinema stars together through separate projects.
Rajinikanth is reportedly playing a stylish doctor. Ram Pothineni has been linked to the antagonist’s role, while Simran Bagga, Yogi Babu and Raashii Khanna have also been reported as part of the cast.
These reported character and casting details should be distinguished from confirmed production announcements where the makers have not publicly clarified them.
Could Indian 3 and Dharman both release during Pongal?
Both films could theoretically target the same festive window, but the reported possibility of a clash has raised questions about their release plans.
Pongal is an important release period for Tamil cinema, making scheduling a major consideration for films with prominent stars. Since Kamal Haasan is associated with both productions, staggering their releases could be one option if their plans overlap.
That said, there is no official confirmation that Dharman will move or that Indian 3 will release during Pongal 2027. Until the producers announce their plans, a scheduling change remains speculation.
The bottom line: Dharman may shift from Pongal 2027 to a reported April 30 date if Indian 3 takes the festive slot. Both release plans remain unconfirmed, so an official announcement is still awaited.
