Kangana Ranaut is set to return to the horror genre with an intriguing new project titled Scary Picture. Announced by actor-producer Rana Daggubati at HorrorCon India 2026, the film will bring Kangana together with Telugu filmmaker Ravi Babu, who is known for his unconventional storytelling and experimental films.
The announcement has generated interest because Scary Picture will mark Ravi Babu’s first Hindi feature film. Kangana has also explored horror before, making this a notable addition to her upcoming film slate.
Rana Daggubati Announces Scary Picture at HorrorCon India 2026
Rana Daggubati unveiled Scary Picture during HorrorCon India 2026, surprising audiences with the announcement. Videos from the event showed him introducing the project on stage as the film’s title appeared on the screen behind him.
Although an official announcement from Rana’s production house is still awaited, Kangana acknowledged the news on Sunday by reposting an Instagram video showing Rana discussing the project.
Speaking at the event, Rana described Scary Picture as a horror film directed by his friend Ravi Babu, who has made several horror films in Telugu. He also revealed that the project would be the filmmaker’s first Hindi feature and that the title was being announced at the event before any Hindi press announcement.
The film is expected to be made in Hindi. However, its release date, production schedule, supporting cast and storyline have not yet been revealed.

Who Is Ravi Babu? The Filmmaker Behind Scary Picture
Ravi Babu comes from a well-known Telugu film family. He is the son of veteran actor Chalapathi Rao and began his acting career in 1998 before making his directorial debut in 2002.
Over the years, Ravi Babu has developed a reputation for exploring unusual concepts and blending genres. His films have moved beyond conventional commercial storytelling, often combining elements of comedy, thriller and drama. While not every project has performed strongly at the box office, his willingness to experiment has made his filmography distinctive.
One of his most unusual projects was Adhugo, released in 2018. The film featured a piglet as its central character and drew comparisons with the Hollywood film Babe. It reflected Ravi Babu’s interest in building stories around unconventional ideas rather than relying on familiar commercial formulas.
His directorial work has covered different genres, including coming-of-age stories and thrillers, while slapstick comedy has also featured in several of his films. He was last seen as an actor in Coffee with a Killer in 2025 and directed Razor in 2026.
His collaboration with Kangana in Scary Picture is therefore an interesting development, particularly as it introduces his filmmaking style to a Hindi-language feature.
Kangana Ranaut’s Recent Films and Upcoming Projects
Beyond her film career, Kangana has also been occupied with her political responsibilities as the Member of Parliament from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. She won the Lok Sabha election as a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate.
Her latest theatrical release, Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, arrived in cinemas in 2026. Kangana also produced the film, which received mixed reviews and reportedly collected around ₹8 crore worldwide during its theatrical run. It is now available to stream on ZEE5.
Kangana has previously appeared in horror projects, including Raaz: The Mystery Continues, released in 2009. She later explored the genre again with the Tamil horror comedy Chandramukhi 2 in 2023.
Alongside Scary Picture, her upcoming projects include the bilingual film Circle and Queen 2, the sequel to her 2014 film Queen. She is also reportedly attached to Blessed Be The Evil, a project expected to mark her Hollywood debut.
What to Expect From Scary Picture?
For now, Scary Picture remains an early-stage announcement with several details still under wraps. Rana Daggubati has confirmed the horror genre, Ravi Babu’s involvement and the film’s Hindi-language direction, while Kangana’s social media response has further acknowledged the announcement.
The combination of Kangana’s experience across genres and Ravi Babu’s experimental approach gives the project an interesting starting point. However, audiences will have to wait for further announcements to learn about its story, cast and production timeline.
With Scary Picture, Kangana is preparing for another encounter with horror, this time under the direction of a filmmaker making his Hindi feature debut.
