After an eight-year hiatus from television, Aarya Babbar is making a notable return with a role unlike anything he’s done before. In the upcoming show “Jagriti- Ek Nayi Subah”, Babbar will play the sinister antagonist Kalikant Thakur. This character is the village’s wealthiest and most influential man, known for his ruthless tactics and his ability to bribe local authorities to facilitate his illegal operations.
Aarya Babbar’s Big Comeback: The Role of Kalikant Thakur
Kalikant Thakur is a deeply corrupt figure who uses his power to exploit and oppress. He is not only authoritarian but also holds strong patriarchal and misogynistic views. His cruelty extends to the Chitta community, where innocent people are unfairly punished whenever authorities seize his smuggling goods. Thakur’s character is portrayed as a complex villain who represents deep-seated societal issues.
Aarya Babbar expressed his enthusiasm about returning to television with this compelling role. He said, “I’m thrilled to be back on TV after eight years, and ‘Jagriti’ is a fascinating project to return with. This is my first time working with this channel, and I had an enriching experience collaborating with the creative team. We spent a lot of time perfecting my dialect and body language to embody Kalikant. I isolated myself before filming to fully embrace the dark side of my character. Although I’ve played many negative roles, Kalikant is one of the most intricate and challenging roles I’ve ever taken on. I’m eager for the audience to see the powerful story we’re telling.”
The Show’s Unique Premise
“Jagriti- Ek Nayi Subah” explores a strikingly harsh reality: newborn babies in the Chitta community have their fingerprints recorded by the police right after birth, branding them as criminals before they’ve even taken their first breath. This practice reflects the grim fate imposed on these children, shaping their future based on their community’s reputation.
The show breaks away from traditional narratives, presenting a story set in the fictional town of Mokshgarh in Jharkhand’s Jamtara district. It follows the courageous journey of a young girl who stands up against systemic injustice. Her fight is not just for her own dignity and freedom but for the right to transcend the oppressive fate her community has condemned her to.
A New Narrative
Produced by Guroudev Bhalla, “Jagriti” aims to shine a light on social issues through its gripping storyline and complex characters. It challenges viewers to reflect on the injustices faced by marginalized communities and the strength needed to confront them.
With Aarya Babbar’s powerful portrayal of Kalikant and the show’s bold narrative, “Jagriti- Ek Nayi Subah” promises to offer a fresh and thought-provoking viewing experience.
