“Food is our common ground, a universal experience.” – James Beard
This thought beautifully captures the spirit of Apna Bazar Farmers Market, where shopping is more than just buying groceries — it is about community, culture, and connection.
On Thursday, September 4th, 2025, Apna Bazar celebrated the Grand Opening of its new store in Brooklyn, NY, at 1234 Coney Island Ave. With this, Brooklyn welcomed the largest ethnic grocery store in Coney Island, open 24/7, offering Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, and Turkish products, fresh produce, and a full halal meat shop.
The inauguration was a lively celebration filled with music, traditional food, exciting promotions, and raffles. Community leaders and government officials joined the festivities, showing support for a store that has already become a household name.
Behind Apna Bazar’s journey are visionaries who built it with heart. Deepak Bhardwaj and Jaswinder Singh laid the foundation of trust and service. In recent years, Romy Salhi brought his passion and leadership, helping Apna Bazar grow and expand to new heights. Romy now also leads stores in Woburn and Lowell, MA, along with his partners, while continuing to uphold the values of unity and service.

During the inauguration, Romy Salhi said, “Here you will hear Allahu and Satnam Waheguru together, and when you come to Apna Bazar, you’ll truly feel it’s your own — your ‘Apna’.” These words perfectly capture the soul of Apna Bazar — a place where cultures meet, faiths unite, and people come together under one roof.
A devotee of Mahadev and a patron of music and art, Romy ji has extended his love for culture into every initiative. Through Apna Bazar and personally, he continues to support Jay-Ho’s vision and endeavor to advance a bridge between art and culture through innovation and technology, standing as a champion of both tradition and progress. These actions embody the spirit of harmony and unity that defines Apna Bazar.
Step inside, and you’ll see why Apna Bazar feels different. Every aisle holds a story — MTR mixes that bring back flavors of childhood, jars of Paras ghee that spark memories of family gatherings, and Shahenshah spices that awaken the joy of festivals. For many, Apna Bazar is not just about shopping; it is about rediscovering traditions and passing them on to the next generation.
With the new Brooklyn store, managed in collaboration with Shahbaz Chaudhry, Apna Bazar is bringing that same warmth, convenience, and quality to New York’s vibrant South Asian community.
So, whether you are in Boston or Brooklyn, you know where to go when you long for the taste of home.
Because at Apna Bazar, “Shopping isn’t just about what you take home — it’s about the memories you relive and the community you create.”
