The 78th Cannes Film Festival is all set to begin at the beautiful French Riviera from May 13 to May 24, 2025. As always, this world-famous event will bring together the best of global cinema. Satyajit Ray’s Classic Returns: Aranyer Din Ratri
One of the most exciting highlights is the screening of Satyajit Ray’s 1970 classic Aranyer Din Ratri in the Classics section. This timeless film stars Soumitra Chatterjee and Sharmila Tagore, and will be shown in a newly restored 4K version. The restoration used original negatives carefully preserved by producer Purnima Dutta, offering a fresh look at one of Ray’s most loved works.
Homebound: A Powerful New Story
Director Neeraj Ghaywan brings his second feature film, Homebound, to Cannes 2025. The film has been selected for the Un Certain Regard section, which focuses on original storytelling and fresh perspectives.
Starring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor, the film is already drawing attention. Adding global prestige, legendary director Martin Scorsese has joined the project as an executive producer. Homebound is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, and others.
Tanvi: The Great – A Star-Studded Debut
Veteran actor Anupam Kher steps into the director’s chair with his debut film Tanvi: The Great. The movie will have its world premiere at the Marché du Film (Cannes Film Market). The cast includes big names such as Iain Glen, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swami, and Pallavi Joshi, among others.

Charak: A Dark and Thought-Provoking Film
Another Indian film heading to Cannes is Charak, directed by Sheiladitya Moulik and produced by Sudipto Sen. The film explores the Charak Puja ritual in Bengal and touches on sensitive issues like blind faith, child sacrifice, and dark rituals. It aims to spark conversation about the tension between faith and humanity, making it a strong social commentary.
A Doll Made Up Of Clay – Student Film at La Cinef
Bringing student talent to the global stage, A Doll Made Up Of Clay will be featured in the La Cinef section, which highlights student filmmakers. This 23-minute film is written and directed by Kokob Gebrehaweria Tesfay, an Ethiopian student at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI). It is the only Indian entry in this category.
