Dhoom Dhaam Review: A Missed Opportunity for an Exciting Thriller

197 0

Yami Gautam Dhar and Pratik Gandhi’s latest film, Dhoom Dhaam, is a comic thriller that had the potential to be an entertaining ride but ends up being just average. While the concept is interesting, the film lacks the excitement and unpredictability needed to make it truly engaging.

A Familiar Storyline

The movie revolves around Koyal (Yami Gautam Dhar) and Veer (Pratik Gandhi), who meet through an arranged marriage. On their wedding night, just as things start heating up, two men knock on their door looking for someone named ‘Charlie’. This sets off a chaotic chase as the newlyweds run for their lives. The big question—who is Charlie, and why is Veer accused of hiding something? The film tries to answer these questions with a mix of comedy and suspense.

Good Start, But Fades Quickly

Director Rishab Seth starts the film on a promising note. Yami Gautam Dhar impresses with her transformation from a shy bride to a fearless car racer who doesn’t hesitate to use colorful language. However, the charm of her character fades as the film progresses. One particularly out-of-place moment is her monologue about patriarchy in the middle of a high-speed chase. While the message is strong, its timing makes no sense—who stops to give a speech while running for their life?

Pratik Gandhi’s character, Veer, is supposed to be funny due to his many phobias. While this starts off amusing, the joke is stretched too far, making it less effective by the end.

What the Film Lacks

The screenplay moves at a decent pace, keeping confusion as a central theme. However, the film lacks the thrill and excitement needed to keep viewers hooked. The plot twists are predictable, and seasoned thriller fans will figure out the ‘big revelation’ long before it happens.

Eijaz Khan brings some much-needed fun as a confused character caught in the chaos. Prateik Babbar, in a brief role, doesn’t leave much impact, while Mukul Chadda plays a cop efficiently but without much depth.

Final Verdict

One of the film’s saving graces is its short runtime of 1 hour and 48 minutes, ensuring that it doesn’t drag unnecessarily. However, better editing and sharper writing could have helped maintain suspense and made the film more engaging.

With so many high-quality thrillers available on streaming platforms, Dhoom Dhaam fails to stand out. If you’re looking for a light watch without high expectations, you might enjoy it. But if you love gripping thrillers, this one might leave you wanting more.

Dhoom Dhaam is now streaming on Netflix.
