Julia Roberts starrer Leave the World Behind is slated to release on Netflix this December. The official teaser is out for the much-awaited apocalyptic thriller. Based on Rumaan Alam’s novel of the same name, the film also casts Ethan Hawke, Mahershala Ali, and Kevin Bacon.
The story revolves around two families in the backdrop of a collapsing world. A family goes on a vacation on Long Island when two strangers seeking refuge from a cyber attack arrive at their place at night. As disaster looms the two families seek shelter in the same house disconnected from the world.
Leave the World Behind – Plot
Clay (Ethan Hawke) and Amanda (Julia Roberts) go on a luxurious weekend vacation with their children, Archie (Charlie Evans) and Rose (Farrah Mackenzie). All of a sudden two strangers, G.H. (Mahershala Ali) and his daughter Ruth (Myha’la Herrold) appear at their doorsteps in the night, breaking the news of an inexplicable cyber attack and seeking refuge in the house claiming to be theirs.
Soon the disaster grows alarming by the minute and all the characters have to come to terms with a collapsing world.
Reactions
The trailer of Leave the World Behind is getting a good response from the audience. Fans are finding the first look impressive and interesting. A fan wrote on social media: “The book was incredible. This adaptation looks legit!! I can’t wait.”
Release date
Leave the World Behind will be released on November 22 in select theaters and then premiered on Netflix on December 8. It will also be featured as an opening film of the AFI fest on October 25.
The Academy Award-winning actress Julia Roberts was last seen on screen in the 2022 romantic comedy Ticket to Paradise with George Clooney. Well applauded for her roles in films encompassing diverse genres Leave the World Behind is a much-anticipated film for her fans.
