At 44, Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan is proving that age is just a number when it comes to staying fit and healthy. Gone are the days when she chased a size-zero body. Today, Kareena is more focused on building strength, staying active, and maintaining a positive mindset — and it’s clearly paying off.
Her fitness trainer, Mahesh Ghanekar, recently shared insights into her workout routine and the incredible transformation she’s been through over the past few months.
Strength Over Skinny: A Healthier Goal
According to Mahesh, Kareena has been working with him for more than two years. However, for the last five months, she has built solid consistency in her training. She now works out at least four times a week, following a “2 days on, 1 day off” pattern, which allows her body enough time to recover.
Each session lasts for about an hour or more and includes 14–15 different exercises. The focus is on High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), strength training, and functional workouts. Mahesh says what makes Kareena stand out is her willingness to push herself and take on every challenge with full energy.
Kareena’s Physical and Mental Transformation
Kareena’s transformation is not just about losing weight but about becoming stronger — both physically and mentally. With a combination of clean eating, intermittent fasting, and regular workouts, she has managed to shed a few kilos. Her weight dropped from 67.5 kg to around 64 kg, and she’s aiming to lose 2–3 kg more.
But the bigger win, as her trainer points out, is her improved muscle tone, stronger body, and positive mindset. She has reduced inches all over her body and feels much stronger and more confident.

What Her Workout Looks Like
Kareena’s workout routine is a mix of:
- Weight training
- Core exercises
- Functional training
- HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training)
The training also includes heart-rate monitoring. Her heart rate is pushed to 135–180 beats per minute during exercises and then allowed to recover. This method helps measure and improve fitness levels. In just one session, she burns up to 500 calories — all without using big gym machines!
Simple Fitness Tools, Smart Results
Kareena doesn’t rely on fancy gym equipment. Her routine includes weights ranging from 2.5 kg to 12 kg, dumbbells, kettlebells, steppers, and even her home walls and stairs. She enjoys working out outdoors when needed, proving that fitness is possible anywhere if you stay committed.
Why Strength Training Matters for Women Over 40
Trainer Mahesh highlights how important strength training is for women in their 40s. During this phase, hormonal changes, mood swings, and perimenopause symptoms can make things harder. Strength training helps women fight these changes, stay active, and feel empowered.
He says, “Just like we save money for our future, investing time in fitness now is like building a body that supports you later in life.”
