Koffee With Karan Season 9 is already creating buzz even before its premiere. As fans continue to speculate about the celebrity guests who will appear on Karan Johar’s final season of the popular chat show, one guest combination has been at the centre of online demand Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma.
However, Karan Johar has now seemingly put those hopes to rest.
In a new teaser for Koffee With Karan Season 9, the filmmaker and host makes it clear that cricketers will not be appearing on the show this season. The announcement comes despite strong fan demand to see Virat Kohli make his debut on the famous Koffee couch.
Karan Johar Says No Cricketers Are Coming
The latest teaser features Karan Johar speaking to several people over the phone, giving viewers a glimpse of the cheeky and self-aware tone of the show’s final season.
At one point, the conversation turns towards cricketers.
Karan responds that “cricketers are not invited” and adds that they are also not coming.
The remark appears to be a direct response to the growing speculation around Virat Kohli’s possible appearance on the show.
The Indian cricketer has never appeared on Koffee With Karan, making him one of the biggest names fans have wanted to see on the couch.
Fans Wanted Virat Kohli And Anushka Sharma Together
Ever since Karan announced that Koffee With Karan would return for a ninth and final season, social media has been filled with suggestions for potential guests.
One of the biggest demands has been for Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma to appear together.
The couple has become one of India’s most popular celebrity power couples, and their joint appearance on a show known for personal conversations, rapid-fire questions and celebrity gossip would naturally generate enormous interest.
But while Anushka Sharma has appeared on the show multiple times, Virat Kohli has never sat on the Koffee couch.
Karan’s latest teaser now appears to rule out the possibility of that happening in Season 9.
Anushka Sharma Has Appeared On Koffee With Karan Three Times
Although Virat Kohli has never appeared on the show, Anushka Sharma is no stranger to Karan’s famous couch.
She first appeared during Season 3 in 2011, alongside Ranveer Singh.
She returned in Season 4 with filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and later appeared with Katrina Kaif in Season 5 in 2016.
Her last appearance was therefore almost a decade ago, making a return particularly interesting to fans.
However, the makers have not officially revealed the complete guest lineup for Season 9.
Why Karan Johar Doesn’t Want Cricketers On The Show
Karan’s decision not to invite cricketers is not entirely unexpected.
The host has previously spoken about the controversy surrounding the appearance of Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul on Koffee With Karan.
The episode, which aired during Season 6, became hugely controversial after comments made by the two cricketers triggered widespread backlash.
The controversy became so serious that both players faced disciplinary action from the BCCI, while the episode was subsequently removed from the streaming platform.
Since then, Karan has largely stayed away from having cricketers on the show.
Karan Had Already Ruled Out Virat Kohli
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Karan has addressed the possibility of Virat Kohli appearing on Koffee With Karan.
During a conversation with Sania Mirza last year, Karan was asked about celebrities he had never invited to the show.
When Virat’s name came up, Karan explained that he had never actually asked the cricketer to appear.
He also said that after what happened with Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul, he was no longer asking cricketers to come on the show.
The latest Season 9 teaser therefore appears to reinforce a decision Karan had already spoken about publicly.
Koffee With Karan Season 9 Will Be The Final Season
The biggest twist this time isn’t just the absence of cricketers.
Season 9 will be the final season of Koffee With Karan.
Karan Johar announced the decision in an emotional video in September, reflecting on his 22-year journey with the show.
The filmmaker recalled pitching the idea of a celebrity chat show to his father, Yash Johar, in 2004.
What began as a relatively simple concept Karan sitting down with celebrities for an informal conversation — eventually became one of Indian entertainment’s most recognisable talk shows.
22 Years Of Koffee, Gossip And Controversy
Since its launch in 2004, Koffee With Karan has become much more than a celebrity interview programme.
The show has produced viral moments, memorable rapid-fire answers, unexpected revelations, celebrity friendships and plenty of controversies.
Over the years, viewers have watched stars talk about relationships, films, friendships, rivalries and personal experiences.
Karan himself has acknowledged the show’s complicated legacy, including the controversies that have followed it over the years.
After eight seasons and 161 episodes, he has decided that it is finally time to bring the journey to an end.
Karan Johar Promises A Final Season Full Of Drama
Despite repeatedly suggesting that the final season will be different, Karan’s latest teaser proves that his trademark humour isn’t going anywhere.
The promo features him taking phone calls, rejecting potential guests and joking about relationships, rumours and even his own decision to end the show.
At one point, he tells someone that relationships can be manifested, but jokes that the same cannot be said about divorce.
The teaser suggests that while this may be the final season, Karan intends to go out with the same playful energy that has defined the show for years.
When And Where To Watch Koffee With Karan Season 9
Koffee With Karan Season 9 will begin streaming on October 14, 2026.
The show will be available on JioHotstar.
While the complete guest lineup has not yet been officially revealed, the final season is expected to feature several major names from the entertainment industry.
Will Virat Kohli Ever Appear On Koffee With Karan?
For now, it doesn’t look like Virat Kohli will make his long-awaited debut on the Koffee couch.
Karan’s latest teaser specifically rules out cricketers for the final season, meaning fans hoping to see Virat and Anushka together will have to wait for another opportunity — if it ever comes.
Considering this is the show’s final announced season, that possibility may now be even more unlikely.
Jay-Ho Exclusive
For years, Koffee With Karan has been the place where Bollywood’s biggest stars revealed their secrets, discussed relationships and occasionally found themselves at the centre of controversy.
But for its final season, one of the most requested guests will be missing.
Virat Kohli won’t be joining Karan Johar on the Koffee couch.
Despite fan demand for Virat and Anushka Sharma to appear together, Karan has made it clear that cricketers are not part of Season 9.
It is an interesting way for one of India’s longest-running celebrity chat shows to enter its final chapter.
Whether the final season manages to deliver the same level of surprises without its much-requested cricket guests remains to be seen.
But one thing is certain the final cup of Koffee is going to be watched very closely.
