The Creative Arts Emmy Awards brought some exciting moments recently, and Maya Rudolph was at the center of one of them. On Saturday night, Rudolph won her sixth Emmy for her role as the Hormone Monstress on Netflix’s animated series “Big Mouth.” This award, for best character voice-over, adds to her impressive tally of Emmys.

Maya Rudolph Scores 6th Emmy

Maya Rudolph, who has previously won two Emmys while she was a cast member on “Saturday Night Live,” is also nominated for two more awards for hosting the show last season. She expressed her pride and joy at winning, sharing that being part of “Big Mouth” feels deeply meaningful to her. “It’s making me cry because I’m very menopausal,” Rudolph joked emotionally, reflecting on her career and her love for the work she does.

Angela Bassett Wins First Emmy

Angela Bassett also had a memorable night, as she took home her first-ever Emmy. She won for best narrator for her work on the National Geographic show “Queens.” Bassett, who has been a notable figure in Hollywood with two Oscar nominations and an honorary Academy Award this year, was visibly thrilled and grateful. She chose to narrate this documentary partly because of its all-female production team, a rare achievement in the industry.

Bassett expressed her excitement, saying, “Oh my god, wow, my first Emmy,” and shared how much the project touched her heart.

Pat Sajak and “SNL” Also Shine

Retired “Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak won the Emmy for best game show host for his final season on the show. This was his fourth win in this category, his first since 1998. Meanwhile, “Saturday Night Live” did exceptionally well in the craft categories, securing six awards, including for makeup and production design.

Rudolph, who has a history with “SNL,” will return this fall to portray Vice President Kamala Harris as the show kicks off its 50th season. She’s also nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy at the main Emmys for her role in Apple TV’s “Loot.”

Notable Wins and Highlights

“Shark Tank” made a stylish return to winning form by snagging the Emmy for Outstanding Structured Reality Program, a category it dominated from 2014 to 2017. The Ron Howard-directed documentary “Jim Henson Idea Man” and the show “Welcome to Wrexham” also had big wins, with the latter taking home three awards, including Best Unstructured Reality Show. The Oscars broadcast was another highlight, winning four Emmys including best live variety special.

One of the most heartwarming moments of the night came when 98-year-old Dick Van Dyke won for “Dick Van Dyke 98 Years Of Magic.” Van Dyke, who turns 99 next month, charmed the audience with a bit of dance and humor, saying, “I’d like to take this opportunity to invite you to my memorial. I don’t have a date yet but I’m not feeling very well.” His win was especially significant as he became the oldest person to win a daytime Emmy earlier this year for his appearance on “Days of Our Lives.”

The awards show continues with more big names in contention, including Oscar winners Jamie Lee Curtis and Da’Vine Joy Randolph, as well as Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling. The main Emmys ceremony, hosted by Dan and Eugene Levy, will air on September 15, showcasing even more of this year’s top television talent.
