Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan’s film ’72 Hoorain’ has stirred up controversy prior to its release, as the trailer faced objections from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The movie, produced by Gulab Singh Tanwar, Kiran Dagar, and Anirudh Tanwar, with co-production by Ashoke Pandit, aims to explore the manipulation of faith and the paths taken by Fidayeens.
Starring Pavan Malhotra, Aamir Bashir, Rasheed Naz, and Ashok Pathak in pivotal roles, the film narrates the story of human psyche while confronting haunting realities.
The recently released trailer of ’72 Hoorain’ takes viewers on a journey through the routes taken by Fidayeens and the manipulation of teenage Muslims to join terrorist organizations. The film aims to expose the dark side of radicalization. However, the CBFC rejected the trailer and instructed the makers to remove specific images, address animal welfare concerns, and refrain from Quranic allusions.
Ashoke Pandit, one of the film’s co-producers, expressed his disappointment with the CBFC’s decision. He highlighted that the board had already granted a censor certificate to the film, questioning the rejection of the trailer. Pandit mentioned the requirement to remove the depiction of a dead body’s feet and briefly mentioned animal welfare concerns, emphasizing the film’s National Award-winning status and the continuity of visuals between the trailer and the approved content.
’72 Hoorain’ is slated for release on July 7, 2023, in multiple languages. The movie initially premiered at the 2019 International Film Festival of India (IFFI), where it earned the ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Medal Special Mention. Director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan was also honored with the National Film Award for Best Direction in 2021 for his film.
