Earlier in a conversation with Jay-Ho! The Jay Kumar Show, Javed Ali shared his struggles while discussing his profession. He revealed that when he first arrived in Mumbai, he had a mere 125 Rupees in his pocket.

Recounting the touching experiences from his life, Javed Ali said, “I didn’t receive any financial support from my family. I arrived in Mumbai at a young age with just 125 Rupees. Surviving was a daunting task, and I had to sell my chain for 1200 Rupees. Arranging even a single meal was a challenge. I rushed from studio to studio, hoping for an opportunity to showcase my talent. Today, I am grateful for what I have accomplished.”
Guided by his father’s wisdom that actions speak louder than words, Javed Ali persevered. While living in a modest house in Mumbai, he performed at various events, saving money to support himself and send some back home. Despite witnessing others receiving hefty paychecks from their families, he remained patient, knowing that success would come at the right time. Javed Ali attributes his achievements to the blessings of his parents, whose support and encouragement have been instrumental in his journey.

A remarkable aspect of Javed Ali’s story is his decision to change his surname. Originally known as Javed Hussain, he chose to honor his mentor and musical inspiration, Ghulam Ali, by adopting the surname Ali.
Reflecting on this decision, Javed shares, “I had a profound admiration for Ghulam Ali Saab. As a young boy, I would listen to his ghazals, trying to memorize them. Meeting him was a lifelong dream. Through a fortunate coincidence facilitated by a connection my father had, I had the opportunity to perform for Ghulam Ali Saab when he visited Delhi. He expressed his delight and appreciation for my performance. Overjoyed and fueled by my admiration for him, I approached my father and requested to change my last name to Ali as a tribute to Ghulam Ali. With my father’s approval, I eventually became Javed Ali.”
