The Federation of Indian Associations – New England (FIA-NE), led by President Mr. Abhishek Singh and Vice President Mr. Sanjay Gokhale, held its Spring Gala in Providence, Rhode Island, attended by high-profile guests including Congressman Seth Magaziner, Michigan Representative Shri Thanedar, and India’s Deputy Consul General Dr. Varun Jeph. The event began with Sonali Doshi singing the national anthems of the US and India, followed by a moment of silence to honor the late community member, Dr. Paromita Das Asija.
Congressman Magaziner praised the Indian American community in Rhode Island for their contributions to the state’s cultural and culinary scene, while Dr. Jeph emphasized the shared values and goals between India and the US.
The event’s showstopper was the Indian American Unity Cricket League (IAUCL) that was launched with a bang at the event, featuring the legendary Kapil Dev as its brand ambassador. Who knows, maybe soon we’ll all be shouting “Howzat” instead of “Touchdown”! Mayor DaSilva made the announcement, which was followed by a simulated cricket faceoff between two teams consisting of guests of honor and local cricket club captains. Kapil Dev also delivered a video message expressing excitement about promoting cricket in America.
FIA-NE, under the leadership of President Mr. Abhishek Singh and Vice President Mr. Sanjay Gokhale, facilitated the donation of books on Indian culture to HARI Vidya Bhawan, a non-profit school in Rhode Island, and launched “The Journey So Far,” a commemorative book, and a documentary showcasing the celebration of India’s 75th Independence Day in Boston and Providence at the event. FIA-NE also launched their OTT platform, FIA-NE Connect, and recognized distinguished members of the Indian American community for their service. The event concluded with dance performances and complimentary snacks and dinner.
Jay Kumar, host of US based popular talk show Jay-Ho! The Jay Kumar Show, was among the distinguished attendees at the FIA-NE Spring Gala, and expressed his enthusiastic support for the newly launched Indian American Unity Cricket League (IAUCL), wishing the league all the best in its upcoming inaugural matches.
