What Makes Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil Different?
Rather than directly recreating the storyline of the Capcom games, Cregger’s film tells an original story set within the Resident Evil universe. The approach focuses on the franchise’s familiar horror elements while introducing a different narrative.
The film combines horror and comedy, building tension around a character caught in an increasingly impossible situation. Its humour comes from a series of disastrous events, with the protagonist struggling as circumstances repeatedly turn against him.
The story reportedly captures the atmosphere of the games without relying on a direct adaptation of their established plots. It draws on the franchise’s themes of survival, danger and unexpected encounters with the infected.
Resident Evil’s Visual Effects and the Sewer Zombie
The film’s creature effects are another part of its production story. During an interview with /Film, Weta visual effects supervisor Kevin Smith discussed the challenges involved in creating the sewer zombie, particularly the complicated visual effects required for its blood and bodily fluids.
The sequence highlights the work involved in bringing the film’s gruesome horror imagery to the screen. Its creature design and effects help establish the unsettling atmosphere associated with the Resident Evil world.
Will Zach Cregger Return for Resident Evil 2?
A sequel has not been confirmed in the supplied report. It suggests that Cregger may be unlikely to return for another instalment based on his comments about making the film, but it does not establish any official decision about the franchise’s future.
