Shaan Reveals the Truth Behind Singing Reality Shows: “Most Performances Are Re-recorded”

Popular singer Shaan, who has been a judge on several singing reality shows, recently opened up about what really happens behind the scenes. In an honest interview, he shared that many of the amazing performances we hear on TV are not actually live — they’re often re-recorded and fine-tuned in a studio later.

The Magic You Hear on TV Might Not Be Live

Shaan, who’s given us hit songs like Woh Ladki Hai Kahan, Kuch To Hua Hai, and Main Aisa Kyun Hoon, has also judged shows like The Voice India and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs. He said that earlier, especially until around 2018, most singing performances were pretty real. “Back then, what you saw and heard was almost the same as what was sung live. Maybe they tuned it a little bit, but it was still the singer’s original voice from the stage,” he explained.

Songs Are Re-recorded in Studios

Shaan revealed that now, entire performances are often re-recorded in a studio after the live show. “They sing once during the show, but then that audio is taken to the studio where they make the singer do it again. It’s polished, corrected, and sometimes even completely redone,” he said.

So, when viewers at home hear these performances, they’re often listening to a perfected version, not the original live one. That makes people think the singer is flawless — but the reality might be very different.

High Expectations, Big Disappointments

Because of this re-recording process, the audience ends up expecting too much from the contestants. “When you hear them on TV, you’re amazed. But if you invite them to sing live in front of you, you might get disappointed,” Shaan said honestly.

He added that some contestants are still genuinely talented, and there are differences in how well they sing. “Some sing really well, others not as much — and that’s where the real reactions come in. But when everything is edited and fixed, it’s hard to tell who’s truly good,” he explained.

Shaan also admitted that he had disagreements with show producers when this trend of re-recording started becoming more common.

Shaan’s Latest Song

While speaking his truth about the reality TV world, Shaan also continues to focus on his music career. He recently sang Bam Bam Bhole for Salman Khan’s movie Sikandar. The track also features Dev Nagi and includes rap parts by Shaikhspeare, Y-Ash, and Husxain. The lyrics were written by Sameer Anjaan, and the music was composed by Pritam.

Shaan’s candid comments shed light on the less-talked-about side of reality shows. While these shows are a great platform for new talent, it’s important to remember that not everything we hear on TV is 100% real. His honesty reminds us to appreciate raw talent — not just the polished final product we see on screen.
