Over 50 Teams Apply for a Chance to Compete
This year’s competition was fierce, with more than 50 teams applying from all over North America. After careful consideration, the South Asian Showdown team has selected nine finalists to perform in Boston. These teams represent the best of Bollywood Fusion dance and have traveled from different cities across the continent, each bringing their own unique style and energy to the stage.
Rohit Bhambi, the founder of South Asian Showdown, expressed his excitement about this year’s competition. “We received applications from teams across the continent, and it was incredibly difficult to narrow it down to just nine,” said Bhambi. “But these nine teams are the best of the best, and the audience will experience some of the most high-energy and diverse Bollywood/Fusion performances ever seen.”
The Thrilling World of Bollywood Fusion Dance
Bollywood Fusion is a dynamic and energetic dance style originating from India, but it incorporates many different forms of dance from around the world. The competition will feature a mix of Bollywood, hip hop, bhangra, classical, contemporary, Tollywood, and more. The nine teams chosen to compete in the 2025 South Asian Showdown are as follows:
1. BU Chankaar – Boston

BU Chankaar is Boston University’s premier all-girls fusion dance team. With a mix of Bollywood, bhangra, hip-hop, and classical styles, they strive to showcase the beauty and energy of South Asian culture. Their performances are known for their creativity and vibrant energy, making them a standout team in the Boston dance scene.
2. MIT Mirchi – Boston
Founded in 2012, MIT Mirchi is the university’s competitive Bollywood-fusion dance team. Known for their powerful stage presence and a love for all forms of dance, Mirchi has represented MIT in various competitions across the country. Their performances are known for setting the stage on fire, blending traditional Bollywood dance with modern styles like hip-hop and contemporary.
3. Desi Dhamaka – Tampa, FL
Desi Dhamaka is a co-ed, independent Bollywood fusion dance team based in Tampa, Florida. With a passion for both entertainment and storytelling, they captivate audiences with their high-energy performances. The team thrives in creating a supportive and collaborative environment, allowing each member to grow and shine as a dancer.
4. Miami UJhoom – Miami
Miami UJhoom is the University of Miami’s premier Bollywood-fusion dance team. Since 2013, UJhoom has been lighting up stages with its diverse mix of dance styles, including Bollywood, bhangra, contemporary, hip hop, and classical. The team’s name, “UJhoom,” comes from the Hindi phrase “Jhoom Barabar Jhoom,” which means to dance joyfully and without fear, and their performances embody this spirit.
5. NYU Dillagi – New York
NYU Dillagi is New York University’s only co-ed Bollywood fusion dance team. Known for their creative and unique performances, Dillagi combines Eastern and Western dance styles to create a distinctive and captivating experience. With a passion for storytelling and a deep love for dance, Dillagi is ready to bring their A-game to the South Asian Showdown stage.
6. UBC Junoon – Vancouver, BC
Representing Canada, UBC Junoon is Vancouver’s only internationally competitive Bollywood dance team. With a deep love for Bollywood fusion, the team brings a thrilling combination of vibrant choreography and powerful storytelling to every performance. Their energy and passion are sure to leave the audience in awe.
7. UCI Zamana – Irvine, CA

Zamana is the premier Bollywood Fusion competitive dance team at the University of California, Irvine. Founded in 2009, Zamana incorporates a variety of styles, including hip-hop, bhangra, kuthu, contemporary, and classical. The team has performed at prestigious events across the country and was even invited to audition for America’s Got Talent. Zamana’s performances are known for their energy and excitement.
8. UConn Surya – Storrs, CT
UConn Surya is Connecticut’s premier Bollywood fusion dance team. Founded in 2004, the team has grown into a nationally competitive dance team, blending styles such as Bollywood, classical, lyrical, hip hop, bhangra, and more. Surya’s performances are always full of energy and creativity, making them a force to be reckoned with in the competition.
9. WashU Chaahat – St. Louis
WashU Chaahat is a competitive, student-run Bollywood fusion dance team at Washington University in St. Louis. The team performs at various on and off-campus events and has a strong presence in the intercollegiate dance circuit. With a diverse mix of dance styles, including Bollywood, kuthu, hip hop, contemporary, bharatanatyam, and garba, Chaahat brings a unique flair to every performance.
