16-year-old Sabrina who moved from Malaysia to London to pursue higher education recently started this ‘Tube Girl’ trend on TikTok. Sabrina was seen dancing on the London Underground watched by the commuters. She danced to the tunes of David Guetta’s “Where Them Girls At”. This video went viral gaining 724k likes, 2k comments, and around 30k shares. The ‘Tube Girl’ wrote in a caption, “Being the friend who lives on the other side of the city so you gotta hype yourself up during the commute.”
Following this, many young women are plucking up courage and making dance videos on public transport. The ‘Tube Girl’ themed videos have now become a worldwide trend.
One thing is for sure, to perform in front of people in a public place is not easy. It takes guts to perform in an ordinary public place where people are supposed to ‘behave’ normally and follow their routine. Some trends are pointless and don’t appeal to many but with this one many introverts are taking it as a challenge. Like it’s a sure-shot confidence tool! Also, some young women are saying that doing something outrageous like this is making them feel better about themselves. It’s like not giving in to societal pressure and doing what you want to do.
Perhaps Sabrina was lonely in a new city and she wanted to be her ‘friend’. Social media platforms surely take a chunk of our valuable time but it does give you some benefits, especially, if you use them tactfully. TikTok is one of the most popular entertainment platforms. It gives any performer a podium to showcase their talents. TikTok has helped wannabe musicians and fashionistas to a large extent to illustrate and promote their talents.
These days, people, especially young women, shy away from being themselves in public as they are scared of getting judged. With the ‘Tube Girl’ trend young women are shunning their inhibitions and doing what they want to do in front of people. If this trend stays, hopefully, no one will have anything to complain about!
