Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s upcoming film Udta Teer has hit a release roadblock in Nepal after authorities reportedly denied permission for its public screening. The development comes just days before the film’s scheduled theatrical release in India on October 23, 2026.
According to an exclusive report by Bollywood Hungama, Nepal’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology issued an order refusing screening permission for the film. The report states that the order was communicated to the makers by Bishal Bhandari, a section officer at the ministry. The reported decision concerns the film’s release in Nepal; it does not establish that the movie has been banned in India or other territories.
Why Has Nepal Denied Screening Permission to Udta Teer?
The reported order states that Udta Teer falls under subject matter prohibited by Section 5(3) of Nepal’s Film (Production, Exhibition and Distribution) Act, 2026 B.S. The letter was reportedly issued on Ashwin 30, 2083, which corresponds to October 16, 2026, in the Gregorian calendar.
The precise reasoning behind the classification has not been independently established in the information available for this report. Neither the film’s makers nor the relevant Nepalese authorities have been quoted here offering further public clarification about the decision.
The reported refusal means the film has not received permission for public screening in Nepal under the order described by Bollywood Hungama. Any further development, including a possible review or change in the decision, remains to be confirmed.
What Is Udta Teer About?
Written and directed by Akash A Kaushik, Udta Teer combines comedy, action and patriotic themes in an unusual spy story. Ayushmann Khurrana plays a Pakistani spy who infiltrates India but loses his memory during an unexpected turn of events.
After losing his memory, the character begins to believe that he is a fiercely patriotic Indian. The mistaken identity sets off a chain of chaotic situations, forming the central premise of the film.
The story brings together espionage, mistaken identity and comedy, with the character’s sudden change in beliefs driving the narrative. The makers have positioned the film as an entertainer that mixes action and humour rather than following the conventional structure of a straightforward spy thriller.
Udta Teer Cast and Production Details
The film stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles, alongside the late Mukul Dev and other cast members. It is written and directed by Akash A Kaushik.
Udta Teer is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla and Apoorva Mehta under Dharma Productions, in association with Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain’s Sikhya Entertainment.
The film was previously scheduled to arrive in theatres on October 9 before being postponed to October 23, 2026. The reported denial of screening permission in Nepal adds a new development to the film’s release plans, although the available report does not establish any change to its scheduled Indian release.
Will Udta Teer Release in India on October 23?
As of October 19, 2026, the reported decision concerns public screening permission in Nepal. It does not, by itself, indicate a change to the film’s planned Indian theatrical release on October 23.
The makers have not been quoted in the available report explaining whether they intend to challenge or seek a review of Nepal’s decision. Further clarification from the production team or the relevant authorities may establish whether the restriction will remain in place.
For now, Udta Teer faces a reported screening hurdle in Nepal while its scheduled Indian release remains October 23, 2026, according to the published release information.
