Shooting The Iconic Train Sequence In Ghulam: Deepak Tijori’s Insights

Actor-director Deepak Tijori has portrayed many memorable characters in Bollywood movies. From Aasiqui, Sadak to Ghulam and many more, his supproting characters have been more impactful than even the hero. 

In Ghulam, Deepak played the character of Charlie, which was a prominent supporting role in the film. Despite having limited screen time, his character carried significant weight and added depth to the story. It’s interesting to know that Deepak was recommended for the role by Aamir Khan, who had previously recommended him for another film, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. 

Recently, on the occasion of Ghulam’s 25th anniversary, Deepak Tijori shared his experiences about his role in the film Ghulam (1998) and specifically discussed shooting the iconic train sequence. 

Deepak mentioned that he didn’t have a lot of screen time in the film but was offered the role of Charlie, which was a prominent character. He revealed that he was recommended for the role by Aamir Khan, who had also recommended him for a previous film, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992).

The train sequence in Ghulam is iconic, and Deepak Tijori shared some insights into its shooting. During the final part of the shot, there were only a few people on the set, including Deepak, Aamir Khan, the train motorman, and some VFX personnel. It seems like there was a moment of fear when the motorman informed them that he didn’t have a special brake to stop the train on time. However, they managed to complete the scene without any accidents, and it adds an interesting anecdote to the making of the film.

Deepak Tijori expressed his happiness with the way his character and the film turned out, despite having limited screen time. He also praised his co-star Rani Mukerji and mentioned the great equation they shared with Aamir Khan on the sets of Ghulam.

Deepak Tijori’s portrayal of Charlie in Ghulam and his experiences shooting the film’s train sequence have contributed to the film’s lasting impact and the audience’s fond memories of his performances.
