Barkha Singh Dreams Big: “Give Me a Spy Role and Watch Me Kill It”

When you see Barkha Singh on screen, you probably think—charming, relatable, girl-next-door vibes. But behind that soft smile and calm energy? There’s a total action junkie waiting to unleash her inner spy. Yeah, you read that right.

In a fun and honest conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Barkha revealed her career dreams, her love for action, and how she’s just getting started when it comes to showing the world what she’s really made of.

“I’m not just a pretty face — I can throw a punch too”

We usually see Barkha in heartfelt dramas or light-hearted youth-centric shows, but she’s ready to flip that image. “If I get a role of a spy, I can show my action skills,” she says with a spark. Growing up in a military family, Barkha has been surrounded by discipline, patriotism, and—you guessed it—spy thrillers.

She adds, “People look at me and don’t expect me to do action. But I know kickboxing. I’ve been training, and I want to show that side of me. Give me something like Raazi and I’ll be the happiest actor alive.”

Honestly? We believe her. She’s got the drive—and clearly, the skills.

From “Criminal Justice” to “Lafangey”: Barkha’s on a roll

After charming viewers in Criminal Justice: A Family Matter, Barkha switched gears in Amazon MX Player’s Lafangey, a youthful show full of chaos, comedy, and a dash of romance. Alongside co-stars like Gagan Arora, Anud Singh Dhaka, and Harsh Beniwal, she played Ishita—a grounded, middle-class girl trying to climb life’s ladder.

What made the experience extra special? Her bond with the cast. “I’ve known Gagan and Anud for over 10 years. It felt like one big reunion. But the shoot wasn’t a cakewalk. While Criminal Justice wrapped up on schedule, Lafangey was madness. Poora lafangapan ho gaya tha hum sab ka!” she laughs.

Her character Ishita, she says, hit close to home. “Everyone in my family is either in the Army or Navy. No one even remotely connected to entertainment. So, that struggle to prove yourself? I felt that. When Ishita says, ‘Main compromise karke neeche nahin aaungi, tu mehnat karke oopar aayega’, I wasn’t acting. That came from within.”

Manifesting dreams, one audition at a time

Turns out, Barkha wasn’t even supposed to do Lafangey originally. The show’s director, Prem Mistry, had earlier worked on a different project that didn’t work out for her. But Barkha wasn’t ready to let that go.

“It was my zidd. I said, ‘I’ll keep auditioning till they say yes. But this role is mine.’” That confidence paid off.

And that’s the energy she’s bringing to her next goal: working with filmmakers who write roles for her.

“I want to be the kind of actor where someone like Neeraj Pandey says, ‘You know what, let’s write something for Barkha’. That’s the dream,” she says, eyes full of ambition.

We love to see it.

What’s next? A serious turn and maybe… a spy?

While she’s enjoying the buzz post Lafangey and Criminal Justice, Barkha’s also reading scripts and gearing up for a new release that’s still under wraps.

“I’ve shot something already, but it hasn’t been announced. It’s a very serious show, something where people will see me in a completely different light. I’m nervous and excited,” she reveals.

One thing’s for sure—she’s not just chasing fame. Barkha wants meaningful work, roles that challenge her, and yeah, some hand-to-hand combat wouldn’t hurt either.

Let’s be honest… Bollywood could use more Barkha

At a time when audiences are craving fresh faces in strong, layered roles, Barkha Singh feels like the right person at the right time. She’s got the charm, the skills, the acting chops—and most importantly, the hunger to grow.

And let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to see her go full undercover agent, saving the nation with a silencer in one hand and a smirk on her face?
