His soulful voice and wide vocal range stun audiences of any age. Best known for countless evergreen Bollywood songs, Kumar has performed in several regional languages like Bengali, Odia, Assamese, Bhojpuri, Marathi, and Konkani.

The well-loved artist has collaborated with the maestro R.D. Burman in over 150 Hindi and Bangla songs. His duet with his father Nazar Lage Na Saathiyo in the 1978 movie Des Pardes was hugely appreciated. He had also sung with musical greats like Lata Mangeshkar, Mohd Rafi, and Asha Bhosle.  Some of his hit numbers include – Roz roz ankhon tale, Bade achhe lagte hain, Uthe sabke kadam dekho ram pam pam, Dekho maine dekha hai ek sapna, Deewana dil deewana, Ye zamin gaa rahi hai, Sanam mere sanam, Teri yaad aa rahi hai among several others.

Following R.D. Burman’s demise, Amit Kumar concentrated on live shows, expressing his disappointment with the declining quality of music in Bollywood.
