As the timeless classic ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke’ celebrates 30 years of its release, actor Dalip Tahil takes a trip down memory lane sharing intriguing behind-the-scenes anecdotes.
In a recent interview, Dalip Tahil revealed that Aamir Khan played pivotal role in casting him as Mr. Bijlani, the Sindhi businessman, and lauds director Mahesh Bhatt for his directorial genius and the creative freedom he granted.
Dalip narrates how Aamir Khan’s spontaneous gesture changed the course of his career. “One random day, Aamir called me up and asked if I was at home, and within half an hour, he was there at my door. He offered me a role in the film, saying that it’s a very eccentric Sindhi character, and he wanted me to do it,” the actor recalls.

Admitting initial hesitancy, Tahil shares, “I had never done anything like this, such an over-the-top role, in my whole life. But Aamir said, ‘No, I am sure you’ll be able to do it.’ Aur Aamir ko na bolna toh mumkin hi nahi hai, and he had so much confidence in me, so I got the courage to do it,” adds Tahil with gratitude.
Working with the renowned filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt was a pleasure for Dalip Tahil. Bhatt’s unconventional approach and trust in his actors allowed Tahil to deliver a memorable performance. “He always said, ‘Just do it and don’t think about anything else, I’ll handle.’ I love the way he works, as there is a lot of liberty. He asks you to move naturally and the camera movement is altered according to that,” reveals the actor.
